Jesus. I think I found my ideal shop car...

^^

I can kind of see your point, but no one else does that. That’s all

I can’t see buying a car someone else built and using it to represent my shop. You know people would assume that you built it which wouldn’t be the case. If you were a photo developing store, people wouldn’t assume you built it, but you specialize in working on these cars…

Otherwise I probably would have found a way to buy Curt Brown’s Evo which he practically gave away for like 30k. That was a heck of a deal.

This is probably a great deal too aside from the dyno graph looking a bit frightening. You can see it’s riding the knock sensor.
I’ve heard good things about your shop and I bet you could build it the same or better. I say take the high road. Sure it will cost more, but then it’s your work.

editted for clarity…

I can see that, and agree to a point. However, we’re not “tuners” in the true sense of the word. Yes, we sell chips and flashes for various Euro stuff, but we don’t write code, so to speak, or fabricate parts. So, this car isn’t modded by us, but it’s an example of what we could do if a customer wanted to spend the money.

I suppose calling it a “shop car” is kind of misleading. Much more accurate to say I want this thing pretty badly, and couldn’t build it just like it is for under $30k. However, if I were to build one, I’d do about 90% of what was done to this one.

Yeah, I noticed that. It would be interesting to do a full datalog on it. I’m sure a tad more fuel and a tad less timing would cure a lot of that without sacrificing significant power.

I gotta go with Mike on this one, you should find a nice 6 speed ALLROAD, maybe one with a coil over suspension already installed by you so you can call it your build.:eekdance::smiley:

If one shows up at your shop in the next hour or two, I would take that as a sign.

You must have parts connections that would make it less expensive too.

That’s exactly my point. You’d be showing off someone else’s work and saying you can do it, but you didn’t do it. You can say you’re not a tuner shop, but if you do that work it’s tuner work.

I say do it yourself. Then show it off and be proud!

Or

Buy that car and keep the hood closed and don’t talk about it to customers. Just enjoy it as a good deal. I’d be embarrassed to show the engine bay off. I’d have to disclaimer it and say we didn’t do the work, because you know they’d assume you did the work if you don’t say anything. Once you tell them your shop didn’t do it then you know they’re thinking…
Why didn’t they build it themselves?
Can’t they do this themselves?
The cost explanation won’t fly with a lot of people and I think that would leave a poor impression in their minds rather than a good one.

Either way, I’m definitely putting too much thought into this. Do your thing man!
