so should soldiers not be allowed to have their religion stamped on their dog tags? I mean, just in case an enemy sees it?
I don’t see that being the same at all. It’s the American Army attacking them, not the christian brigade.
well i guess the next logical step is to make every soldier turn in their acog and use the ol’ iron sights until a different third party company can re-supply them with non-jesus sighting systems.
you’re just being lame now. Why should a Jew, Buddhist, etc be forced to use military equipment with christian propaganda on it?
are you against separation of church and state?
holly - the foliage and berries, used for decoration, esp. during the Christmas season.
holy - specially recognized as or declared sacred by religious use or authority
Who gives a fuck? Politically correct bullshit is killing our soldiers. Would you rather they use an inferior piece of equipment less offensive to our ENEMIES? The trijicon sight is made my a private company. Its not made in a Government armory. They can put a picture of Uncle Sam jerking off on Mohammad’s face on the side of it if they wanted to. People need to stop worrying about offending assholes and getting so bent out of shape over religion, its the 21st fucking century, not the middle ages, who gives a shit?
Maybe, but he didn’t quote Scripture while he was putting rounds downrange. (I know you have a Kar98).
It’s not like it’s got entire passages written on the side of the scope, guys. It has a tiny casting under the housing with “JN8:14”. I bet 98% of the soldiers using it didn’t know or care what it was until someone pointed it out. And if it’s a good scope, they’ll continue using it, regardless.
IB4 “it’s the principle of the thing!”
you do realize that the U.S. military rules specifically prohibit the proselytizing of any religion in Iraq or Afghanistan and were drawn up in order to prevent criticism that the U.S. was embarked on a religious “Crusade” in its war against al Qaeda and Iraqi insurgents. So no, they cannot put whatever they would like on it.
Well said. If it was done intentionally I think it’s a bad biz decision personally. Products should be neutral and attempt to appeal to the biggest audience possible. But WTF do I know.
the scope isn’t made by the government, and I am not against the separation of church and state. I am, however, against nit-picky assholes that side with the enemies of our troops when they claim we are partaking in a holy war against them because of a reference placed on a rifle scope that was produced by an independent company.
Are you for government regulations and censorship of goods produced by a private company?
edit:
Maybe the soldiers should just put a piece of duct tape over the inscription, then the holy war would be over!!!11
I am going to venture a guess and say that none of the people using the equipment give a fuck about what is on it :gotme: so why is this being made an issue? As long as we are fighting them it is going to be seen as a religious crusade. The West has been fighting these people non stop for a thousand years. A marking on a rifle sight is not going to make a bit of difference.
why not just have christian prayer in all schools every morning. I’m sure the others who object can just deal with it.
:picard:
Aaron you are being ridiculous… Who gives a shit what is on the absolute best optic you can get? If I want to put “God likes boobs” on all of my lowers that we’re going to manufacture, then I can. Does that make it too religious? No one is forcing the soldiers to use the ACOG, but as I said its the best out there. Trijicon can do whatever they want.
Apparently you don’t understand how government and private businesses work together
Would probably do this generation a lot of good
It’s not like they’re putting whole scriptures or God loves whatever… It’s a few letters and numbers… that they decided to use as their model numbers. Who fucking cares if it coorliates to the bible… fuck… it could all relate to the number 21… Ohhhhh… shivers…
WHO GIVES A FUCK WHAT"S ON THE SCOPE!!! No ONE! other than the media who want to make it this huge thing because it MAY offend someone. That’s the problem with this country no one like to be offended anymore so we can’t do or say anything that may offend someone… Hello San Angeles… Fuck that…
These guys are not saying prayers in school, they’re using a weapon in combat.
Have you ever used an ACOG? If you have, I’m willing to bet that if you were in a combat situation you would not care in the very least if there was a biblical reference stamped into the side of it.
It’s not like you have to recite a prayer to make the sight function, nor do you have to proclaim your faith to anyone in order to get the sight put on your weapon.
And again, THE GOVERNMENT DID NOT MAKE THIS PRODUCT. So back to the question I asked you in which you responded with an over-generalized statement not at all relative to it (quoted above): Are you ok with the government censoring the products made by a private company?
why are you blabbering about the govt. censoring a product.
the govt. spec’d a product with specific rules which where broken by the company making the part. If the part said “praise be to Allah” I bet you wouldn’t be ok with it.
and I’ll fight for separation of church and state until the day I meet the flying spaghetti monster because our nation was founded by those escaping religious persecution and I consider this as equally important to those who do not want religion imposed upon them by their government.
In working on government contracts, and programs and projects… I’ve never seen a requirement or specification in any Military or Goverment specification that defined how or what a product P/N or Model Number should be specified as.
Show me this requirement anywhere that defines how a product P/N or Model Number is to be specified? I’d love to see it!
In this case… the Model Number was a combination of letters and numbers. Pretty typical in everything I’ve seen.
are you really trying to argue that’s it’s not religious and just a part of the part number now?
I haven’t read the military code, but the 5-6 news articles I have read all say this was a clear violation of military terms for a contractor to pull this kind of stunt.
I’m all for separation too. Meanwhile, you should probably hand over all your jesus-money
