Job Posting: Web Designer in NYC

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews requirements of business owners and determines the optimal implementation of existing design principles to generate attractive, functional web pages
  • Responsible for overall design of web pages, incorporating compelling images and graphics, using various tools to create GUIs and interfaces. Creates pages designs as well as specific graphics, including banner adds, splash pages, and animated gifs
  • Determines the “look and feel” for Web presence and ensures consistency in templates and graphical elements.
  • Shows strong skills at conceptualizing, yet always remain true to a client’s marketing and brand recognition objectives
  • Works strategically to define a cohesive vision and organization for both internal and external projects
  • Works with project teams to determine site, page, and applications requirements
  • Creates test pages, templates and other graphical elements
  • Ensures campaign design integrity and quality control
  • Performs assorted design functions as needed (scanning, resizing, illustrations, stock photo acquisition)
  • Coordinates with other departments, including editorial and HTML staff
  • Stays abreast of changing Web design technologies to ensure leading-edge interpretation and execution of design applications.

Education/Experience:

BFA or similar degree in visual communications, graphic design, etc. Three to five years of experience creating superior, original digital designs for the web and interactive applications including prototype layouts, animated banners and icons for online environment. Ability to design products for multiple target audiences. MAC, PC, Photoshop, Imageready and Illustrator experience required. Portfolio review required.

Related Skills & Other Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of Web technologies with an understanding of their requirements and limitations and how they affect design; ability to design, implement and test gateways and GUIs.
  • Strong ability to work tactically in addressing the online user experience.
  • Mastery of graphic design tools and processes, including web graphic conversion and optimization
  • Capable of translating enterprise communications and business mission/message into a graphic format.
  • Fast, flexible, cooperative work style; ability to reprioritize at a moment’s notice as team is still in process of development.
  • Strong customer service orientation, with an ability to clearly discern client needs.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • High motivation level and strong attention to detail with ability to deliver projects on time.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation and organizational skills, with a particular ability to express design concepts to others in a professional and non-technical manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    Salary starts at $43K for a 100+ year old NPO. Great benefits. We will not pay relocation so you must be in NYC.
