I went to see Jon at RIT Saturday… he was hilarious.
Jon did more of a comedy routine and I think that’s what people needed to see. I think sometimes they are looking for him to become president… which makes no sense.
But really, it’s interesting to me that a comedian can have so much wisdom and insight… he had a lot of good things to say that night.
At one point, a security guard went nuts when Jon was talking about the silliness of religion… started yelling something about christ being the way the truth and the light. The audience booed and shouted at him to shut up.
He threw something onstage and walked off… I’m still trying to find out what it was. A walkie-talkie?
And Jon stood there for a moment, looking entertained and said something like," … and for what?"
The guy totally proved Stewart’s point.
Religion is very often…a crock o’ shit. (Yes, a lot of good things come from it too, I know… don’t be insulted that I don’t believe in Jesus… I’ll still love you if you do) Religion is a way for bad people to appear good or feel better about themselves when they shouldn’t, a way for the few to have power over the many, a way to get money, a reason to start wars, a justification for killing thousands… and millions throughout history.
“Thou shall not kill.”
“Thou shall not commit adultery.”
“Thou shall not eat pork.”
Smart pigs, Jon said.
It was also pretty fucking funny when Jon Stewart when he made fun of macs and the Internet at a technical school… BUT people were still laughing… maybe AT him though.
The only part I didn’t agree with was his opinion on conservationism.
He said that he’s not a conservationist because we won’t be around long enough to use up all the earth’s resources.
Now THAT was a goofy thing to say.
He had a lot of fun with the closed captioning. RIT has a very large deaf population so they had an interpreter and a big screen behind him with the words he said. Everytime he got a second laugh after the laugh he got for his joke, he knew to turn around to see the misspelling. He used a lot of big words that the typist did NOT know… and he also just said things so they’d appear on the screen … just like Dane Cook did when he was there.
No photography allowed? Riiiight.
