Just a silly CR-Z

Hey I’m Jon and this is my CR-Z. Just hit ~4k in my 2012 6MT EX and. Currently stationed in Maryland and gradually making some changes to the car.

First things first when I first arrived in Pensacola after boot camp I quickly realized I needed a car. I, as always bought a car in a hurry, overpaid and thats that and ended up with this gem.

Up until a couple months ago this was my daily driver and I really had no complaints but saw the CR-Z and other sporty two doors and realized it was time for a change. So I test drove a CVT CR-Z and the next day, well.

As I settled into the car I looked around for what small mods I could start with since, believe it or not I dont make much. The first thing that caught my interest was a set of Clazzio Seat Covers. I looked online, shook my head over prices and waiting times when I stumbled upon a set from another owner and pulled the trigger and they were now mine.

Such an amazing fit and I like the stitching on the headrest from the previous owner. Now with this Im sitting here thinking to myself I want a front lip, rear diffuser so I look around and price things out. Rear diffuser remains at the top of my list. But on that thought I remember back to the 3M Carbon Fiber vinyl and wonder what the back hatch where the emblems are would look like carbon fiber. Small steps. I ordered a 12x12 sheet and did my fuel door.

In my opinion with a black car this is a nice accent. But hey while at it why not break up the chrome inside.

As I stand here looking over my car I realize its nice out, and the car needs a wax. And let me tell you, turtlewax black color match wax does wonders.

Now as the sun sets I ordered a 12x48 sheet of more carbon fiber vinyl for the hatch and a set of red Honda badges. Plan is to debadge the back end, vinyl then replace the badge.
But thanks for reading

I like these, looks good.

I love these cars. I test drove a gay ass cvt because ray laks sucks and doesnt have any manuals in. Which was pointless to even do because I would never buy an automatic. How do you like it soo far? These things are still soo new that you dont see alot of them out there. The second I get a good job im selling my car and snagging one. Theye seem pretty peppy for a little hybrid and they actually handle well and dont feel like a tin can.

Ya finding the 6MT was tough, Im in Maryland, not far from Baltimore and the closest one was shipped from PA. I love it, have driven back and forth a few times back to NY and to VA and really cant complain. Nice to have a little two door. For pep its pretty impressed, not like Ive ever owned anything super peppy its fun for a hybrid. Could use some thicker sway bars but besides that

After 2 years, you don’t see a lot of them.
Prob because they’re sales are below avg, especially being a 2 seat hybrid.

The CRZ has potential to be cool…but it falls short in a lot of areas…

To each there own opinion. I enjoy it personally. Enough pep for my short drive to work. Great gas mileage for back home from base and better looking than most hybrids

exactly how i feel. Its not slugish and terribly slow like a d series civic. Has a good amount of pep and it looks awesome inside and out. Gas mileage and a short geared 6 speed is something ill take all day long.

Nice whip! Looking forward to seeing things progress.

Thanks. Right now Im searching local businesses to get the front end covered with the new 3M clear paint protection vinyl they offer. Between driving to work and commuting back home to NY I dont wannt kill the front ends paint

Re-reading my post, I offer you an apology. I actually didn’t mean to come off the way I did there. Truth is, I like these cars…my first car was a CRX, and I will always have a warm place in my heart for them…so when I heard the news of the CRZ coming out a while back, I got really excited…

It’s just that, when you build something up in your head, it often lets you down in reality…

To me, the CRZ should have also been offered in an Si trim of sorts…it is really dissappointing to me that it isn’t, and is being marketed basically as a hybrid only…

i agree, i love the concept and love the looks. but to only average mid 30’s mpg and have no power it makes no sense… you can get that kind of fuel economy from a k series in a chassis this light

Mid 30s if you’re talking pure city. Highway I do mid 40s and high 30s with mixed. Pretty good IMO. Not ever close to that in my si

See where you’re coming from but in all honesty as a DD always in Econ mode. You toss it in sport mode and its a different car

Wish they offered these as an Si with a K20A2 or similar, that would be a cool little car. I think the current car is a kinda cool, but when it’s actually a worse performer than my EF si I don’t get it. It does get better mileage, but not enormously.

I should say that I do think they’re cool looking, I just think that their marketing for it was a bit misplaced.

For me honestly in the end it comes down to having something different. Ya may no go fast but why do I need to. As long as it looks good and is reliable I’m happy

When I test drove the gay cvt… the motor shut off and there was a significant delay before the motor kicked back on at red lights. Is the the same in the manuals or better because its not autotrajic? Im seriously considering buying one of these soon. I love the way they look and drive for a dd purpose.

The auto stop in not even noticeable in the 6mt. I thoroughly enjoy it. Programmed it to always be in Econ so toss it in sport time to time it’s like a different car. Quite fun.

I had the exact same car as OP and I HATED it. I mean it wasn’t fast, it wasn’t that economical, it didn’t handle that great. I paid $3500 to get rid of the lease early that’s how much I hated it. A stock Honda Civic could beat it in the 1/4 mile and get better MPG on the highway. The only thing the CRZ is good for is city driving. That is where it’s MPGs shine. Maybe if they had a turbo version but IMHO it is a big failure.

I believe it. I had a feeling it would be much better in the 6 speed.

lol then why did you bother leasing it in the first place if you hated it that much?

because it was new and different. Same reason I bought an FJ Cruiser in 2007. I know…I appear to like to waste money and do it well
