Just bought some Toyo T1R's. Opinions?

I really wanted some high performance tires for the front since the AE86 is notorious for understeer and mine is no different, especially with the welded dif. The price couldn’t be beat and to top it all off, I bought them locally.(Midtown Tire FTW!)
/shameless plug

Reviews on the web all sounded good but I noticed a few negative comments about Toyo in general when I did some searching on here, though nothing specific to the T1R. I don’t have them on the car yet since my wheels haven’t arrived so, I can’t make my own review. What are some of your opinions?

The specific size I bought was 185/55-15, not sure if it matters. edit and going on a 7" wheel

they’re kind of one of those “blah” z rated tires… while you can do a lot worse, you can probably do a lot better. I’ve heard they don’t last very long and also that the sidewall is a lot better than the T1S.

i had t1r’s on my m3… i burned through the rears in 8k miles… so id say they lasted ~ 15k by looking at the fronts…

one of my fronts has a weird cupping on it… dunno what its from though

i have T1Rs on my roadster and i’ve lasted 5k miles with some pretty spirited driving plus some burnouts thrown in there. I’d say they are still above half (maybe 65%).

Good amount of grip with them and a lot better then the continentals that were on the car before.

i LOVED these tires on my MR2 and i will be getting a second (and much wider) set once it comes back on the road…for my car, they gripped like a champ…

When will that be and will it be in Buffalo?
I would need to make a road trip.

I ran them the past 2 summers. They don’t last very long, and mine cupped badly. They’re a good example of “you get what you pay for”.

I got the pair of them out the door for $171 so if they last me two seasons I’ll be happy. Thanks for the input.

lol, never…sometime this decade maybe…

on-topic - 171 is a fucking steal for those tires…you won’t be disappointed…make sure your car is aligned properly and you won’t have cupping issues :gotme:
