Kiddie Porn at work

So boss just told me that I need to come with him. We walk over to a guy’s cubicle, he isn’t there. I see the computer with iTunes open, a video iPod and two external drives. Boss immediately pulls the guy’s power cord, we unhook the box and haul it away, he wouldn’t tell me ANYTHING. Then he hands it over to our networks admin, and says “here it is, scan it”
Then I find out from the networks admin that the guy has been using the server for downloading, when I asked how much bandwidth he used, he said it wasn’t a big deal, it was more of an issue of what he was downloading. I asked him what and he said “the guy was just doing some really stupid stuff, if I told you what, legally I would be in a lot of shit”
I walk away and proceed to crack up. This happened, not even 10 minutes ago.

Have you started wiping your HDD yet?

You don’t mention kiddie porn in your story, so how do you know it’s kiddie porn?

I think it’s a bit obvious that it is. At BEST, it’s regular porn, but I highly doubt that from the way it went down. I know the networks admin pretty well, I eat lunch with him every day, if it was something like regular porn, he woulda told me.

Describe this network admin guy.

Is he anything like Milton from Office Space? Just a little creepier?

yea he might plotting to burn the building down or he may even have pictures of you and your boss :dunno:

lol even if you wipped the hard drive i could bring it all back. If I can do it other people can. The only way to get rid of it is take the hdd and smash it into a million bits then burn them. (data recovery is part of my job)

You can really recover shit even if I’ve delted it all?

brb

It could be animal porn. I hear animal porn is easy to find on the internet. The good thing about animal porn is that no-one really gets hurt. Animal porn is just good fun.

i have a feeling that everything you just said is completely untrue except for the part that data recovery is part of your job. and beacuse of the rest of what you said I have a feeling even that wasn’t true.

wiping some of our countries most important data (Ministry of Justice, Health, Transportation, Peel Police, etc) is part of my job and I’d bet you anything you want that I could wipe it to the point where you or anyone else couldn’t recover it.

SIR, I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL!

i can never JUST watch animal porn

blah blah blah, some methods can completely wipe a drive of all data, regular methods dont, regular metods just usually just erase the file allocation table of selected data, other metods actually surface clean the data from the physical sector, or u could just put it a few feet away from a magnetizer

I want in, and I choose this.

Hector knows computers? The hell…

less chating more pictures

Ya, rly.

Well, we don’t neodymium magnet our drives, but we do LLF them, and I’m pretty sure you can’t recover from an LLF. It takes forever, but it actually overwrites the entire hard drive.
And the networks admin is in his mid to late 20’s, he’s 6’5" and he’s built like Arnold. He’s the guy that’s giving me all the workout tips.

Read: :greddy:

LoL!
Well, we didn’t find anything on there, there were traces of recent deletions, but they didn’t want to go to the trouble of restoring it to find out. And I found out exactly what happened yesterday. The admin remote-logged into the machine because he was suspecting him, and the user pulled out his network cable to kick him out. Then he started deleting like mad, and when we got to him, we didn’t find anything.
No kiddie porn scandal for me :frowning:

One LLF is not NIST compliant; data can still be recovered with some time and effort. Most people that have a workbench (spare PC hardware) would be more then happy to let a data recovery routine run for a week or two.

I would use an approved routine to overwrite all data with O’s then 1’s, etc.
