Laptop hard drive replacement Q

I want to replace the hard drive on my laptop for something with more storage space.

I came across this on Dell.com :
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/System_Drives/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=341-7831

Now is there anything about this HD that would stop me from using it on my comp?

My computer isn’t on the compatibility list but my HD has the same interface. I’m guessing that I just wouldn’t be able to put the stupid faceplate on it, which is fine.

Here is the actual description of the laptop in my comp now.
60GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive for Inspiron 6400/E1505

as long as it is 2.5", it should still fit the faceplate or whatever the old drive is attached to.
Just have to make sure your laptop supports SATA.

i did this on my wife’s dell a few months ago, but it was an IDE drive. Went from 30gb to 120gb. I also used Ghost to copy all of the contents over so I wouldn’t have to reinstall windows.

Ok. I know my laptop supports SATA because that’s what it is using now. Unfortunately that one is 3.5" so I won’t be using that particular one. However I know what I can look for now.

I’d actually rather start fresh with a clean HD instead of ghosting it. Thanks for the info.

check on newegg for HDDs.
