Laptop Issues

My girlfriend is having issues with her laptop…
Its a Dell Studio, Core2 Duo, Vista

You turn it on and it will say there is a Windows Recovery Error and that it failed to start. If you leave it go it will continue to another screen and say
Your computer was unable to start then it goes into Startup repair for a little while.
Then a screen pops up and asks if you want to restore. you tell it to restore and after a few minutes of it saying attempting repairs it tells you to restart to complete repairs.

once it restarts after that it loads up fine, ( a little slower then it used it, but it loads up )

It comes to the desktop and says windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown…
Problem event name: bluescreen

You tell it to check for a solution and nothing comes up…

anyone got any ideas?

I had a similar problem with my laptop a few months ago. Its a Dell inspiron running xp. The only difference is after mine had the recovery error screen it would just freeze there. Wouldn’t boot in safe mode or anything. My dad took it to the tech at his work and he was able to get it working again. Not sure what he did but I know it was a virus. He said he had seen it happen to quite a few computers. He told me to get rid of Macafee and get Norton 2009 because Macafee didn’t catch it. Has worked fine since. Not sure if its the same thing or not. Since yours still boots up you might able to fix it yourself though.

run malwarebytes anti-malware, ccleaner, virus check, and ad aware in safe mode(after you install them and update them in normal mode).
