This guy just doesn’t way to hurt HIS paycheck to pay for HIS business.

Or maybe the business sucks so badly that he hasn’t taken a paycheck in years, is in 150k of debt and the structural damage would have been enough to force a complete shutdown.
We don’t know the circumstances.
That blows my mind. NY is stupid.
This flowchart is exactly what I was trying to get across.
This is entirely possible but a flawed or broken.business model is not the responsibility of an employee. I don’t make a fortune in this business but it’s my responsibilty to pay employees and determine the revenue stream that allows me to do that.
Not sure how you can compare compensation in something like construction which has a complete different business model to something like cosmetology.
The people who work for the business in this case directly benefit from the look/feel of the facility.
The assumption is being made that the owner of this business is well off and that usually isn’t the case for most small business owners.
If my job told me we are changing your bonus structure and you will lose a small percentage over the next few years so we can continue to promote and grow the business which ultimately contributes to my success so be it.
I think the situation sucks I understand both point of views if you’re unhappy with the current situation and can get a job some where else move and life goes on.
I cannot wait to bail on NY, can’t come soon enough.
Yes, the bold. A companies 1st goal is to pay expenses and keep their doors open, this is what enables them to hire & pay employees. If the doors close there will be no employees, the workers will lose their jobs. Obviously as with everything in life it’s all a balance, greed must be kept in check. This is the beauty of “at will” employment, both parties are free to seek greener pastures.
I guess in a way the owner (it’s a she BTW) cares about growth but goes about it completely wrong. She is/was planning to offer new customers %50 off their first time. That completely screws the girls working. %50 less money, smaller tip, from people who probably won’t be back. She also didn’t have a website until a few months ago. She puts money and ideas in the wrong places. I understand what you’re saying about making the place nicer = more appealing = more clients. However resurfacing the parking lot isn’t really going to put them on easy street.
there are about a billion salons out there in the area, especially if she is driving 40 minutes to get there. time to seek other opportunities.
Kind of a lame response from the dept of labor, but that’s what I figured…
If she wants a different salon my fiance is the manager at one in Williamsville and she’s looking for help… however the pay for an hourly stylist will probably be the same as what your wife is earning now. Except more busy probably, ~20-25 cuts a day is average on an 8hr shift I think. Also, I’m still in for your wife’s work location. All I could creep your info for was her name and age ;( Not where she works.
I am going to say (without being a law man) that it sounds highly illegal and downright unethical to ask your employee’s to foot the bill for your business expenses. The only possible scenairo I can see this being legit is if you work based on commission. I know at my wife’s salon/spa the workers have the choice of being a hourly employee or doing commission.
Well a little update to this situation. My wife often works “office hours” doing payroll, paying bills etc. for the shop. Lately she’s said her boss is doing some “sketchy stuff” financially and she was worried she wasn’t even going to get paid one of these days.
Anyway, she decided that it was time to part ways with the salon. She hasn’t officially quit yet however. She’ll be renting out a chair at a Salon that is literally 2 minutes away from our house. She first needs to get insurance, and some other paperwork before getting that up and running, hence why she hasn’t quit yet. She told me however she will give a NYSpeed discount on haircuts to guys and I’m sure other services like coloring to your women. She’ll be basically running her own hours, taking appts, etc. Not being a vendor I won’t post the salon.
Her old/current salon is The Hair Shoppe on Dick Road. Starting probably mid march she’ll be parting ways.
Talked to a friend whi owns a salon about this. She’s also pretty sure that situation is illegal.
I wouldn’t post anything else about this place since you mentioned the name, their financial stuff is confidential so…
Revised, how’s that?
