Lexus now appears ready to up the ante, and go head-to-head with the BMW M3, C-Class AMG, and Audi S/RS4 with this hot version of its IS sedan.

This prototype has all the necessary sporty cues: An aggressive front air dam that appears to take inspiration from Lexus’ LF-A sports car, subtly integrated fender flares, and a deep rear bumper with uniquely stacked dual-exhaust tips. From an appearance standpoint, this high-performance Lexus looks like it can hold its own against the competition.

The most logical engine powering this beast would be the 4.6-liter V-8 introduced in the new Lexus LS460, which, if in the same state of tune, would mean 380 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. Sources say that this engine could be tuned and tweaked for more power, but Lexus has been quite adamant that they won’t get sucked into horsepower wars with their German competition.

By the looks of this prototype, though, it looks like there is now another player in the factory tuner game.

Tired of your oh-so-boring 367-horsepower C55 AMG? There’s hope: Mercedes’ next C?Class will be available in C63 guise with AMG’s sophisticated new 6.3-liter V-8. The engine is capable of pumping a massive 520 horsepower, but likely to be tamed to around 400 to 420 hp for the C-Class sedan. That’s still in line with BMW’s new M3, and an increase of around ten percent over today’s model.

We expect the new C63 AMG to break out just after the standard C’s launch in Frankfurt next year, with a possible introduction at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

sweet. i like the lex. any arse shots? i would like to see this “bulbous” rear bumper and “uniquely stacked dual exhaust”

lex looks hot.

detuning the C-class engine by 100HP is teh ghey. The C-class/ AMG C has always had potential but they never quite executed it to beat the 3/M3. This was their chance and they’re just gonna maintain the status quo.

They may be saying that.

Just to give BMW hope…

…that they are going to make the next M3 the bestest…

and then good bye BMW…

Benz can’t find a transmission to hold all the 700+ lb. ft. of torque those motors can easily produce, that will really lasta long time.

X…

lex > benz
