Lawyer facing DWI, prostitution charges

Published : Tuesday, 28 Aug 2012, 3:49 PM EDTPEMBROKE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a Rochester defense attorney has been charged after state police found him slumped at the wheel of his car at a Thruway travel plaza with a 20-year-old prostitute in his vehicle.
Police tell local media outlets that troopers received reports early Monday morning of an erratic driver on the eastbound side of Interstate 90 east of Buffalo. Troopers say they found the car at the Pembroke service area in Genesee County, with 54-year-old James Doyle asleep at the wheel.
Police charged Doyle with driving while intoxicated, patronizing a prostitute and unlawfully dealing with a child for giving alcohol to a minor.
Doyle was released without bail. He denies the charges, calling them “lurid, salacious and false.” Doyle also says the woman, identified as Alicia Guastaferro of Williamsville, is a longtime family acquaintance, not a prostitute. She has been charged with prostitution, criminal impersonation and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
“I have no doubt that clearly in a court of law there is going to be no finding of any illicit activity in that regard whatsoever. I have clear confidence in that,” Doyle stated.
Guastaferro and her parents appeared on ABC’s television show “Wife Swap” in 2008. After her appearance, Guastaferro sued ABC for $100 million for pain and suffering, saying the network made her look like a “spoiled brat.” The case was settled out of court.
In 2011, Guastaferro’s parents, Ralph and Karen, were sentenced on charges for money laundering and cheating on their taxes.
