This is for a friend at work. Please keep your eyes open.
Our beautiful White Shepherd disappeared from the Emergency Animal Clinical in the Amherst/Williamsville area Saturday evening. She was being treated for a laceration to one of her hind legs and while weighing her in the waiting room they buzzed someone in and as soon as the doors opened, she bolted. She was last spotted on Main St. near Union. She is 2 years old, all white, pointy ears, brown eyes. Her name is Sekera. We are sick and devastated. Please spread the word and forward this to any animal lovers. If you have any information please contact Tom at (716) 812-6339 or Julie at (716) 830-7268.
I’ll keep an eye out, I live right by that clinic, but sounds like she headed toward willville. Probably better chances of finding her there than U Heights anyway…
I know my parents greyhounds have gotten out right in the same neighborhood before and the people around there are genuinely good and will try and find the owner
As told through a Dog’s eyes (some details provided by Mom and Dad)
Mom and Dad left the house 9 a.m. Saturday morning. I wondered where they could be going without me. I waited staring out the window for hours in hopes they would return soon. Instead Uncle Rob showed up. What’s this about? Where’s my Mom and Dad? When Uncle Rob took me to the yard I saw my chance. He was walking me back to the house and I behaved like an obedient girl so he let go of me to open the door. I looked at him, he looked at me and then I ran to find Mom and Dad. I fled down the street and ran in front of a car. The car screeched to a halt, I ran into it and skidded to the ground. I picked myself back up and continued to run. I heard the car lady crying and knew Uncle Rob was in pursuit and a neighborhood kid saw the commotion and managed to lock me in his backyard. Uncle Rob got a hold of me and took me to an emergency vet. The vet said I was going to need surgery. I didn’t think that was such a good idea. As they were weighing me in the waiting room someone opened the doors and I saw my opportunity to escape. I wiggled out of my collar and bolted. Sew up my leg you will not! Unfortunately, I did not think the plan through clearly. After a stretch of running, I realized I was lost and the area was unfamiliar to me. People came after me calling my name but I knew they would just return me for surgery, so I kept running. I eventually found a big field near a nice block and decided it was a nice place to hunker down until Mom and Dad came to get me.
Mom and Dad, desperate, tried an on line service called FindToTo.com. It calls all the people in the neighborhoods where a dog was last spotted to contact the owners with any info. Within 10 minutes, Dad’s phone was ringing off the hook, good Samaritans who had seen me in their field. Mom and Dad dashed from work as quickly as they could. I heard people calling for me and got a little scared and confused. Some strangers pointed at me and yelled Dog! Dog! I darted across the field, right passed Mom I’ve come to find out. Good thing she ran after me. As she came nearer, I recognized her voice and slowed down. I turned around and could she was happy to see me. I ran to her and licked her face. She hugged me and started crying. The crying I thought was weird. She called Dad and told him she had me. She picked me up and started carrying me toward Dad. When we found him, she let me down so I could greet Dad with the same wet kisses. It was a joyous reunion. Mom used the word euphoric.
First thing they did was take me to my vet to get looked at, but I was ok with it. My vet is a nice guy and I had Mom and Dad with me. My vet said what I had was road burn and that my leg had already begun healing on its own since I was young and healthy. I told them I didn’t need that surgery. My vet said surgery would have made it worse that stitches would have just torn my skin. Why didn’t anyone believe me? He salved my leg and wrapped it up and we happily returned home.
I want to thank everyone who was thinking of me and prayed for my safe return. Mom says that now this whirlwind of a nightmare is over with, they can begin functioning like normal human beings again. (I don’t think Mom should ever refer to herself as normal.) I know Mom and Dad are grateful for all the kind words, thoughts and efforts made by all to find me. They cannot begin to express their gratitude or know how to repay everyone for their kindness.
That is my story. I am extremely exhausted from my long journey and would like to retire to my warm, comfy couch for some much reserved rest.
