sick

Shoulda stuck with the ford V10… ;D

my dad has a V10 in his F350…it was a POS

on 7 out of 10 cylinders one winter, it blew the spark plugs clear out threads and all…he had to re-tap them all.

:confused Straaaannngeee

shoulda gotten a powerstroke.

or a duramax after.

Weird choice given that block is legendary.

he talked to a Mechanic about it and the mechanic said its a very popular thing with fords gas powered V10’s. He said they push too much compression and the aluminum heads cant handle it so they blow the plugs out.

after he fixed the issue, he resolved everything by getting a GMC :ninja

Awesome!

SAU is one of the best resources I use to get info on my engine, great forum.

i would get a cummins before a powerstroke or a duramax, but thats just me

Its VERY common on the 6.8l modular v10 Fords. The problem is not exlusive to the v10 and also affects the 5.4 v8 as well. As well as any early aluminum headed modular engine. They were new to aluminum heads of this nature and did not allow enough thread length for the plugs to screw into the heads. The design was updated for 2003 so the 03+ motors don’t have the same problems. I was lucky my 99 didn’t have the issue… yet. I loved that motor, that truck moved pretty good for what it was. I did have the Banks kit though, maybe that was it? I’ve heard a lot of people here say they are dogs stock…

same here, the good ol 5.9 not the new 6.7 though.

cummins are great motors, but the rest of those trucks don’t have the quality to match. chevy has the best combo going right now. can’t beat duramax w/ an ally. absolutely bulletproof combo. Ford’s last decent diesel was the 7.3, anything newer i wouldn’t touch. Dodge’s with the cummins unfortunately seem to eat their manuals for breakfast, and if they do hold you can count on the rest of the truck to let you down, I’m not even going to mention their autos.

my dads was a 99.

def real common on those… i guess the issue can be prevented if you periodically check and re-torque the plugs… but most people don’t realize there’s an issue till one goes pop!

the manuals aren’t THAT bad… my friends got an 00 and is prolly oushing around 1000lb FT and its still holding up for him… knock on wood

i like the 7.3’s but they aren’t that great for putting big power down… the 05-06 6.0’s are pretty reliable… the 03-04 6.0’s were just junk, all sorts of issues with them but they were pretty beffy in the aftermarket like a tune… they responded VERY well.

the duramax+ allison is pretty good but anything more then a tune/intake/exhaust and your gonna need a built tranny thats around 4-5k

same goes for the powerstroke TQshift

he has owned chevy’s all his life…it was his first ford and his last!

Wow this thread went from Skyline with LS3 to POS ford talk real quick. But yeah, Chevy FTW.

i was talking bout stock shit mang. i don’t know much bout diesel performance.
