SO this has turned out to be a huge internet hoax. Iā€™m glad I forgot to look for it last night.

Ok guys this is not fully a hoax, but it is wrongly advertised.
Mars is at a very close approach, however it doesnā€™t rise over the horizon untill about 11:30pm. It isnā€™t at good viewing height till about 2:30am-3:00am. For avid astronomers, looking at the planet will not be optimal untill late october or november. Currently the angle mars is at is not that great for viewing.

Furthermore, you arnā€™t going to find it next to the moon every evening. The moon changes postision every night and half of the month its on the other side of the earth at night.

However the other night I was up north and had a chance to look at it with the naked eye. It is very bright, almost as bright as jupiter is in the winter. And you know is mars because its an orange dot in the sky.

And whoever said it was the size of the moon is a complete moron.
