Can anyone tell me with any kind of certainty how much you can bore out an sr without compromising it?? Or is it best just to go bigger and sleeve it right from the get go.
You can go 40 over with out sleaves. it is how Enjuku rebuilds all of their motors. They go 40 over and call it a day.
Don’t sleave an SR. I can bet you there is MAYBE one shop in Canda who has sleved an SR before. If they fuck up your block is ruined. If you ever need to sleave it is is always cheaper to just buy a new short block.
Short block- 500-800 USD +400 shipping (check out venus auto)
Sleaves plus machining- 800 USD (sleaves) +1100 machining.+ 200 shipping.
Stock sleaves are good untill about 900 hp i think. All i know it the 1000 HP SR ran HKS sleaves.
once you go 40 over and you mess somthing up or scar the cylender the engine is done. If your looking for desplacement go with a 2.2 kit if you can get one for a good price or just buy a RB25. I would personally over bore a engine as little as possable just so I can mess around with it many more times to come!
Actually, we called Enjuku to ask about their sleeving blocks. They actually run 0.050" overbore without sleeving. I am currently running a 0.040" overbore. I wouldn’t go more than the 40 over. Also, there are not many pistons available in those weird sizes.
Thanks guys, can always count on the necc for the answer!
