To be honest, I’ve never really like convertibles, or small cars, but I drove an 02 on a used car check at work today, and would really like to get one for a summer car (like I need anymore cars).

Don’t mind mileage but I don’t want rust.

Any BP powered Miata can experience #4 issues under extreme load (i.e. track use) unless you do the coolant reroute. A small percentage of '99-00 engines had thrust washer issues but they didn’t last more than 20k miles before failure so its not something to worry about on the used market.
At $4k you are on the low end of the market for an NB so expect to see rusty, and/or beater examples in that range. You might luck out and find a nicely cared for but high mile one in that range though.
