Boring holes in concrete for installation of metal posts is one reason. Have a few of these, along with some magnetic drill presses as well.
Good machine. Comparable nowadays to something in the $1500 range easily.
It also mounts to the wall so you can bore holes horizontally for plumbing and piping through a foundation. I got this is a trade and just have no use for it
