in the manual for my mobo under specifications summary for CPU it says Socket A for AMD Duron/Athlon Athlon xp 3000+ or higher. my cpu is a athlon 2600. they are both “barton” from AMD.
are these going to be compatable?
should be… it wants athlon xp 3000+ … if you’re just athlon 2600 it should work…
Im not sure if the 3000bartons are overclocked 2500’s or no, My buddy has his 2500 oc’d to a 3100, he could run it stable with air, but he has it water cooled
there shouldnt be a problem with it, it will probably read it as a 2500 in teh bios.

amd xp mobile barton = unlocked multiplier
amd xp barton = locked multiplier
same processor just one designed for laptops to be able to throttle the processor down during low cpu usage to save power and heat.
People are buying the amd xp barton mobile to put in their desktops and ramping up the clock multiplier.
