Over the past weekend I was able to participate in another Audi Club event at Daytona. This was an Audi Club event yet there were plenty of “non-Audi’s” there including several Corvette’s, Porsche’s, BMW’s, etc. This year we drove my friends 2003 VW Jetta GLI VR6. Once again we had a blast.
Some highlights.
The track.
Audi R8 love. These cars look sick on the street but imagine them closing in rapidly on the super speedway. Three of them were in my run group so I of course moved over a lot.

This is a Hoosier R6 that blew coming out of Nascar turn #2 (turn #9 on the track map). The driver was able to keep the car off the wall and prevent a bad wreck.

However, one driver was not so lucky when he spun his Mustang in the infield section between turn 5 and 6. The car is probably totaled. Thankfully, both the driver and instructor were ok. I had a guy in a Viper spin in front of me in turn 4 but it was no big deal. The same can be said when a 911 Turbo lost it entering the bus stop (back stretch) but he quickly saved the car and I drove by without any drama.
Champion Audi Racing brought an Audi R10 race car (sans engine) to the event. The car is chassis #101 and is the first R10 made and the first R10 brought to the US. It is also the last R10 in the world still able to be seen by the public. Meaning Audi has already claimed the remaining R10 race cars. Some will be museum cars and the rest have been/will be dismantled. Chassis #101 is going back to Germany this week and will be taken apart. No R10’s were sold to customers.
