MR2 Pedal Install (Celica GT-S)

This seems to be a popular mod amongst the MR2 community but I wanted to put my own spin on things. Here are the OEM MR2 Pedals (This is the best pic I have):

I was able to get a FULL set (Gas, Brake, Clutch, and Deadpedal) off of a guy on newcelica.org. They are from a 7th Gen 2000 Celica GT-S.

Gas Pedal:
Notice the difference from the OEM MR2 and OEM Celica GT-S Gas Pedal. The Celica pedal is a different shape than the MR2 pedal.

Knock out the pin that holds the MR2 pedal to the arm and remove the pedal.

Placed the arm in a vice and bend the arm to fit the curve of the pedal and re-install the pin.

Brake and Clutch Pedal:
The Brake and Clutch pedals are simply Rubber pads with a metal cover.

Deadpedal:
I had to get creative with this. Most people leave the OEM Deadpedal/Foot rest because the Celica one is just too big.

The problem with leaving the plastic Deadpedal is that, to me, it just does not look right. So, I decided to compromise between the two. Take the OEM Deadpedal and remove the tread.

I rough cut the tread using flat bottom wire cutters then finished them off smooth with a flat blade.

Copy the image to the Celica Deadpedal. I picked the area that would not get any holes as I wanted a smooth pedal. I can always add them later if I want.

Rough cut then sanded to fit.

Now I get to tear the crap out of the Celica Deadpedal housing. I cut 2 tread pieces out, sand them from the back to get rid of the mold gussets, and then glued into place with some 5 minute epoxy.

All in all it was pretty easy. It took me about 3 hours worth of work to get it all buttoned up. I will post up some pics in the car once I get a chance.

Looks sharp

Can’t wait to what else you’re planning for the car.
