The fuck thats real good for a first try, i need to get my hands on a tig.
go to millers website if you want to learn some basics, millerwelds.com I think
There is alot of NDT methods (you mentioned x-ray, that being one of them)that can tell you weather or not a weld is “good”.
As far as the car world, half (fuck it, 90%)the shit out there is junk. It may “look” good, but from an inspectors point of veiw=fail. I’ve seen so many welds on intake manifolds and intercoolers leak due to the fact that the fuck welding them had no idea how to fill in a crater, or weld over a start/re-start situation. The kicker is, people pay TOP DOLLAR for this crap.
Damn them are nice looking welds for the first time.Ha have lowlyoilburner train.he is the man almost all the crap in my car is welded by him
it doesn’t look like absolute shit from the picture, you got a bead flowing and didn’t burn a hole in it, seems like a good start
Tried it once and did horrible. My uncle was attempting to teach me and told me the final product should look like a row of quarters one laid over the other.
Your job however looks like it came out fine.
All we do at the shop is TIG weld - and for a first timer, that ain’t half bad, at all. Keep at it!
what what wat?
welds look cold:nerd:
looks cold? i bet it woulda burnt the shit out of me if i picked it up, so it couldn’t have been that cold… lol, cold weld humor ftw.
pressure test it?
I pressure tested it to 30 psi before i put the -10 an -6 bungs on it and it was good. I really washed the fuck out of the bungs, so I think I’m OK.
Second welds look good. :]
Throw some dye penetrant and devoloper on there if ya got it!
Make sure it has no leaks before you throw it in to action.
Takes like 5-10 mins to check it.
edit: nm, you pressure checked it so dye check would be moot :>
