My local feline friend

He doesn’t stay still long enough for pics. I haven’t had a great deal of time but I put out a cardboard box with some towels and a bowl of catfood. I just hope the squirrels and chipmunks don’t take advantage of it before the cat, or God help me the mice!

How about something like this? Some guy on Reddit made this insulated cat enclosure for the same reason…

Instead of rubbermaid why not use decent sized cooler? Cut a hole small enough for the cat and the insulation from the cooler should help retain it’s body heat.

Hmmm…coolers not a bad idea either. When I came out this morning he was in his temporary shelter. Hope to make up a more permanent one tonight. Will post pics as I go. Thanks for the input.

I’ve already contacted the patent office so nobody get any cure ideas. I am calling it the “Cat-Dominium”. Here’s the features and specs for the base model.

  1. R-13 insulated walls, floor, and ceiling.
  2. Weatherproof plastic construction.
  3. Removable to for ease of cleaning…or eviction.
  4. 100v/75 watt radiant electric heating system.
  5. Plush cotton interior.
  6. Completely portable and convenient.
  7. Will float in flood conditions.
  8. Stylish color and design.
  9. Meets all local, state, and federal building codes.
  10. Financing is available.

Stopped to pick up some supplies for the job today and grabbed what I needed to complete my idea. Here’s what it is.

  1. Plastic tote with snap on lid.
  2. Leftover insulation installed around the sides, bottom, and top underneath lid.
  3. Used a remodel style electrical box and mounted it in the center of the lid.
  4. Used a piece of Romex with a screw in light bulb receptacle and added a plug end.
  5. Lined the inside with old used cotton t-shirts.
  6. 75 watt light bulb and an extension cord.
  7. BAM !! Done.

Articles of incorporation have already been filed for Cat-Dominium LLC and we should be up and running in our new production facility (one of the abandoned grain elevators downtown). We are currently interviewing ground floor investors and venture capitalists so now’s your chance (for those of you who missed out on the Great Lakes Gold Mining opportunity).

LOL…You are late to the party…several years ago I invented a Cat-dAminium…and it was in a black tote!

I would sleep in that. But that’s not saying much

Goddammit, Andy.

We have 3-4 strays/ferals around the house. Showed this thread to Carly. I now have to build a cat house too.

Your wife’s going to let you build a cathouse? How does she feel about all those whores hanging around?

That is awesome, lol you should make some more and have a duplex with little staircases

Now you’re thinking like Cougarspeed.

I support this statement. Doit. Doit.

Ugh.

I like how you are going to torture it with eternal daylight
I would also like to point out that the flotation claim needs a disclaimer for water levels below 4" or what ever size your hole is.
(or a redesign using closed cell insulating foam)

My wifes aunt had a stray cat problem. she gave them the run of her garage, and fed them daily. They ruined most of the stuff in there.

Good luck with your new friend.

Nice work man!

Thought about the “eternal daylight” issue. Darker bulbs were only available in lower wattages and when I ran the calculations with x=heat, y=brightness, p=the cat’s free time and ability to sleep, z=the poor bastard would probably appreciate warmth over inconvenience. And as far as flotation testing, I’m willing to take the gamble.
He’s been in there since 15 minutes after I put it out so I’m guessing he’s ok with it.

If the cat can’t sleep just leave a night mask in there

Then it’ll think it’s Catwoman !

Since cats sleep all day anyhow, I’m sure he will not even notice.

Just wait until he starts bringing his lady friends over keeping you up all night
Hopefully, his old lady does not find out and trash the place.
