my "new" wheels (powder coated)

I’m trying not to jump ahead of myself here, but a friend of mine took a look at my wheels tonight and immediately stated that they weren’t black chrome. I shrugged it off at the moment but after going back and looking at other pictures of black chrome, I don’t think I believe it either. Take a look at what I mean. The following is a picture of my wheel with a picture of Whitey’s IC piping inset. Anyone else notice a huge difference in color?

Those look so gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay :greddy2: and ricey

J/K!!! What’s up Jeff??

:jerkit: My wife had a car like that

Sup Jeff!

both of you are jackasses

um, YEAH!

HAHAHAHA

I am not sure if thats a true comparison, you have to remember the lighting is completely different in those pictures. My intercooler piping looks lighter in day light then it did under the shop light with no flash. If there is a problem bring it up to Jason, variances do occur with coatings. Especially on special blends

looks good either way

wtf, i deleted that post.

the comparison picture does still look strange to me. i went out and asked jason about it and he convinced me that it was in fact black chrome. he was cool about everything as he had been before. still an A+ guy in my book. still extremely happy as well.

Thats an awesome price… I always wondered about how they get the old paint off. I have some white K1’s that I want to have coated another color. Now it might be easier than I thought. Looks good…

real black chrome is a chroming process and not a powder coat

I always thought black chrome was an anodized paint that is applied to something that has already been chromed?

Rims still look great! I might get mine done too… As for lug nuts, I recommend Gorilla’s black chrome lug nuts… they say black chrome, but they are really gloss black. Each lug nut is keyed as well. And they are relatively cheap. I think I payed $30 shipped from summit for mine…

Agreed.

The color matcher probably used a D65 light source to mix the paint for your wheels. It simulates the light given off by the sun.

In Whitey’s picture the intercooler piping is under shop lights which are usually cool white fluorescent.

I wouldn’t worry about it. He sounds like an experienced painter and they look good either way.

thanks for the heads up on the lug nuts. a friend of mine had recommended those to me as well.

even if it aint black chrome it still looks great

i was gonna say it sorta doesnt look like real black chrome. black chrome seems to be alot darker than that… but again the lighting issues are a concern like whitey said
