I’m having a hard time locating a specific tool was hoping someone on here could help. The biggest issue is we don’t know what it’s proper name is, we’ve checked with all the bike tool manufacturers/distros with no luck, and no combination of words has turned up a result that is close. Basically it is a tool that is very helpful in bike wheel building (no idea if this is what the tool was specifically designed for), but it looks like a speeder handle (see pic) but instead of a square end to accept a socket it has a flat tip screwdriver end. It’s about 5 inches or so from top of handle to the tip, I wish I had a picture of the broken one but my camera doesn’t work. So anyone have any ideas, or leads? Maybe this is just a tool that is no longer made?
What does the tool do / used for?
Well you would use it for the same things you would need a screwdriver for, this just allows you to spin faster without changing your grip all the time. We use them to thread spoke nipples on from the back because its way faster than your hand.
I have one. never really used, just sitting in my tool box. 3/8 drive
$25
Maybe I wasn’t clear enough but that isn’t what I’m looking for. I don’t need one that is used with sockets but has a flat head screwdriver bit in the and is significantly smaller in length and size. The picture shown was just for an example of something that was similar in use and shape.
Couldn’t you just use a 1/4" cordless impact driver or any other power tool?
You could, but it’s kind of a pita because you’re using a flat head bit making the drill awkward to use and you need to count your turns so you have even tension when you go to use the spoke wrench. You also loose any feel for how tight things are getting.
Anyways I found someone refering to them as a cranked screwdriver, did a google search and found Kline makes one that should work and they’re less then 10 bucks.
I found what was called a “nipple driver” from numerous sources but the photos did not seem to show the flat tip end you described. What I found looked like the photo above.
Fuck yea, that’s exactly what we are looking for.
That Klein should be what your looking for. I have one in flat, Phillips, and robertson tip. Typical electrician’s tools.
haha, I was wondering how you found a picture of one but didn’t know what it was called.
