Nerds... HELP!!!

I’m a complete wireless noob.

I am connected from my PC to my Belkin f5d7130.

I’m trying to connect my PS3.

WTF.

I can obtain IP, but once it tries to hit the net it fails.

I also try to get into the router via IP to check the firmware, and I can’t get in. The generic IP isn’t working. http://192.168.2.1

If walking me through it on the phone would help… that’d be nice.

I got the router used… from another nerd who may have tampered with something.

wouldn’t it be 192.168.1.2? (if it’s behind the modem)

not 100% sure though

on your computer, go to run: cmd.exe

then ipconfig /all and double check

is it asking you for a network key on the ps3? A buddy of mine had problems setting his ps3 up too when he first got it. Not sure what exactly it was though

generic should be 192.168.0.1

pull up the status for the wireless connection and see wha the gateway is. That “should” be the address for the router.

Do I have to hard wire to the modem from the PC to hit it?

Does that sound like one of the dumbest things I’ve ever said? I can’t imagine it would allow me to update the firmware while I’m connected to the modem via a wireless connection.

I wasn’t able to do the: 192.168.2.1 because it always went to http://192.168.2.1/

If it isn’t a firmware issue… what else could be the problem?

What are my DNS values supposed to be?

I don’t think that is a Belkin IP is it?

quick search of the manual found here:

http://cache-www.belkin.com.s3.amazonaws.com/support/dl/f5d7130_manual.pdf

192.168.2.254

correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it’s

74.65.32.1

however, I’ve never used a setup like that so not 100%

give it a shot (or I’m sure someone else can help ya out)

Tried both of those too. No go.

Do I have to be hardwired to the router?

Where are the real nerds? I saw LZ watching this thread…

any way to do a hard reset on the router? then everything is back to default.

wait, are you trying this on your PC or the PS3? IF you’re already connected, you don’t have to be hardwired.

I’d wait for some of the IT guys, I’m sure they’ve been through this once or twice lol

Did that…

I’m trying to hit the router from the PC to check the firmware…

but ultimately I’m looking to connect my PS3 to the router.

  1. What Version of the PS3? (20,40,60,80)

  2. In network settings on the PS3 you should be able to obtain an IP via your router.

  3. Can you get in your router? If you go to Start > Run > type cmd > then type ipconfig /all > Default gateway is your router IP

can you connect if you use a cable?
