New York Post chimpanzee cartoon

OBAMA DIDN’T WRITE THE BILL (PERIOD)

yah i think sharpton went overboard. but then again, when hasn’t he

Yeah, but it’s his pet project.

That’s my problem, though. It’s barely makes any sense, it’s a bad joke, and it has the added problem of being arguably racist (if unintentionally so) to some extent.

yes, we know.

BUT

90% of America is full of silly uneducated fucks, who could easily take it the wrong way. I agree that is was an oversight and the cartoon should have never hit the newstands, even though though there were no racial intentions meant by it.

You can say that, but however, I feel that has changed, especially recently.

There are many black people in high power positions. Look at NYS, the Governor, the mayor of Buffalo. Oh wait, the President is half black, or is he all black. So is that holding the black man back? Not from what I can see.

There is the NAACP, the Ebony Awards, BET, all black universities. So given these examples, how are we holding them back from progressing in society or keeping white people on top of society?

Look at old movies like Blazing Saddles. There is racial humor in there. It was and remains funny. But try to envoke any type of humor like that into a picture, or movie now and watch the cries come out that we are racist.

I’m sick of hearing people complain about white people being racist. It’s a bunch of crying that almost seems like it is done to perpetuate the white person as being such a terrible group of people. When in fact you hear more racist comments in conversation, song lyrics, and movies from black people themselves. If they don’t like it, then why do it themselves?

It’s a double standard, that they are not holding themselves up to the same light.

I’m friends with people of all races. I feel that I am able to joke with 95% of them about all topics. But some people are easily offended or don’t have a sense of humor. Those are the ones that usually complain about humor like in the paper.

In the end, IT’S A FUCKING JOKE! Lighten up.

All I can say is

It’s just not worth going any deeper than that with the people on here.

I will leave this with my original point, that they’re all offensive (well, at least if you over analyse the monkey one as racist, which wasn’t the intent).

What I find funny is how the same people who had no problem with the mountains of offensive stuff printed about Bush and friends are the same ones crying the loudest over this cartoon. Free speech apparently is only ok if you’re saying what their group agrees with.

In the general population:

White alone: 66% or 198.1 million
Hispanic or Latino: 14.8% or about 44.3 million
Black or African American: 13.4% or 40.9 million
Some other race alone: 6.5% or 19 million
Asian alone: 4.4% or 13.1 million
Two or more races: 2.0% or 6.1 million
American Indian or Alaska Native alone: 0.68% or 2.0 million
Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander alone: 0.14% or 0.43 million

In Congress:

African American - 42 (7%)
American Indian 1 (<1%)
Asian 8 (1.5%)
Caucasian 459 (85%)
Hispanic 26 (5%)
Not Stated 2

It’s a more drastic story in Governorships. Race is a huge indicator of income potential.

How are some anecdotal black-related social constructs proof that there’s racial equality?

First, that was tasteful. It was ironic. It was poking fun at racism, not poking fun at a minority. Huge difference.

Second, it was funny. This was not.

All people are racist. They associate with people like them. If you think black people are more racist, you aren’t spending time around the right (or perhaps wrong) white people.

I agree, that the “white guilt” syndrome is ridiculous. I just think we should be sensitive to our fellow citizens, and not provoke negative feelings without reason. This was not a reason.

In my experience, this is something people say when they’re saying something they know is racist and they want to justify themselves.

It wasn’t a joke, it was a stupid cartoon that wasn’t edited. I’m not arguing that it was racist, just that the editors are incompetent if they didn’t pick up on this before it was published. If they picked up on it and allowed it to be published, THEN they’re racists.

And know what’s strange? I agree with you. I loathe affirmative action. I hate that, in my applications to law school, I see minorities getting blatant preference when they’re numerically significantly inferior to me.

I’m all about merit, not handouts. But the fact is that the races are NOT equal practically. They need to be. We need more funding in inner city schools, and the culture needs to shift. It’s a multi-sided problem, that I’m not going to get into further, but you can’t just wish it away by pointing out BET.

Is it because you’re still ignoring what I’m saying, or because you’ve realized that your position is indefensible?

I’ve learned from past discussions that you are one of the people that feel that what the say is the end all and be all to a topic and package it behind some fancy legal type wording. You could probably be one of the nicest people out there and maybe I’ll meet you and we can shoot the shit and talk cars, but I haven’t yet.

I say that I am friends with all races because I am. I work in an enviroment that has all types working here, color, religion, and sexual preference. And those people would call me their friend and also say that I am not a racist. We actually all can joke about ourselves and our race, which makes it fun.

And I’m not ignoring what you are saying, but I am stating MY VIEW on this topic which I believe is something that I am able to do.

Agreed. It usually gets ugly past the 2nd page.

camaro joe: i dont know you and im sure you a good guy but stop painting with a brush a mile wide not EVERY black person acts the way you say they do. as a matter of fact if you look outside the ghettos most dont act like that at all…just saying

No, it’s because based on your other posts there is no sense in arguing with you. The tint on your world view is so far left/PC that no amount of reason or logic is going to change your point of view. So why continue to pound our heads against your wall of ignorance?

Have fun with this thread, I’m out. Glad the paper stood their ground and told you and your PC crowd to suck it.

well at least now i know not to make a thread about anything race/politics/religion related…

You’re completely wrong. I’m centrist on abortion, gun control and environmental policy. I’m only really far left on education, and religion. I’m right-leaning on fiscal policy.

As for this, you didn’t even address my point once. That they have every right to print this stuff, but it’s moronic, and the editor is an idiot. And that the racial undertones ARE more hurtful than comparing Bush to a chimp, where no such undertones exist.

I think you’re just taking the easy way out of actually addressing the argument I’m making. And you completely ignored my critique of your abortion of logic regarding my alleged “hypocrisy” with regards to free speech.

You should know that already! That’s like the number one rule in all social interaction, don’t bring those things up unless you know everyone agrees, you want to fight, or you absolutely have to resolve something!

fixed

I thought the cartoon (if intended to be racist) is funny as hell.

Your grasp of the beauty of truly subtle humor is both refreshing and delightful. Thank you for your contribution.

no need to take it that far, he just needs to get out of the mainstream media and stop commenting on this bullshit because it just stirs up controversy.

Oh please he’s the most identified person when it comes to the bill’s ownership

Did I say EVERY when talking about blacks. No, I did not.
But the ones that complain at every notion and paint EVERY white person a racist is what I am talking about.

Blacks don’t like us making racist jokes or comments. Well news flash, white people don’t like being called racist.

And yes, I am a very nice guy.

Just sayin’

I’m more offended by the fact that it’s not funny than that it’s racist.

and yeah, it’s over the line a little… if it was over the line to make a point then that’s fine, but this was just stupid and not funny.

IL+1

Well put. I got a little heated, but I didn’t mean to put you down. I just get touchy on a few things, and I’m very picky about logic. There are plenty of logical reasons behind conservative views, and I respect them when they’re properly made. Jay assumes that I’ll never back down because I’m some kind of ideologue, but that’s just not the case - I just refuse to accept an argument unless there’s some kind of real evidence behind it, and good logic. Good logic is something that escapes the vast majority of people, unfortunately, and it’s something that doesn’t tend to mesh well with internet forums.

One key point that really gets me irritated is that the proper way to critique an argument is to take a look at what the key points of it are, and to chip away at them. Do that to me, and I’m fine. It’s what I’ve tried to do throughout this thread. But it hasn’t been reciprocated, it’s just been the usual “restate my position and then get frustrated when nobody changes their minds.”

If you go back and read my posts, I haven’t been doing that, but that’s the response I’ve gotten.
