It’s all about context for me. I don’t care if you call your friends that amongst yourselves. I hope you don’t do it in front of people that would be offended, but I support your right to do so under the Constitution (while I would also wholeheartedly approve of them whooping your ass).
When you’re dealing in the public domain (especially as a member of the media), you have no legal obligation to refrain from offending others. I think it’s a hallmark of a good citizen and a good person to do one’s best, though. That doesn’t mean we can’t acknowledge the differences between various groups. It doesn’t mean we can’t make jokes (but please, for the love of God, make them funny). It doesn’t mean we can’t talk about constructive things with racial undertones, like the social preconditions for failing urban schools.
I’m going to ask you an honest, serious question. Do you have interest in discussing cars on this forum? I only see you reply when there is a topic that has to do with race that comes up. I honestly don’t ever recall seeing you post anything in the automotive related topics.
Based upon this post I am absolutely convinced that you kept an open mind to others’ arguments and read the entire thread before posting. I applaud this.
Really??? thats funny ive been here 3 years and i seem to have a post count higher than 2 so id imagine i do post about cars but then again maybe i dont surf nyspeed as often as you do…further more since your not a mod i was unaware that you were tracking my every post and that since you dont notice my posts that makes it the end all be all of why im here.
thats a racist post hmmm it wasnt in response to the numerous racist posts in that specific thread?
and heres a secret but kept it between me and you…I’m half white, my entire family…white, and my future wife you guessed it white. so your claims of me being racist against whites are how do you say it um far fetched.
Your joke was in no way related to the original issue. Sharpton is a drama queen, yes.
The cartoon is somewhat more offensive and demeaning than saying he should “get a job.” It’s more like drawing George W. Bush (or Ronald Reagan, or Jack Kennedy) with a Hitler mustache and a Nazi uniform, shooting himself in the head, and having some SS officers saying, “Who will organize the invasion of Iraq now?” / “Who will end the Cuban Missile Crisis now?”
We’ll my joke/comment is there simply to illustrate my politically incorrectness, i think i accomplished that.
I’ll make a more relevant point if you require it… The cartoon is not offensive racially. Obama did not write the stimulus bill. Pelosi, congress, many others are responsible for that. They are the chimps. Anyone who thinks it’s offensive is obviously politically uneducated. And now to link it to my original comment, sharpton is a joke.
Edit:
Just a question. Why can’t someone call a group of people monkies/chimps for doing something that is dumb just because there is a half African American in said group?
Again, this has all been addressed in the thread. TO the average American, the stimulus bill IS Obama’s. That’s how the media refers to it, and it’s how the average American thinks of it. Because they’re politically uneducated. It’s the perception that’s the problem, not the nuances of factual accuracy of an unfunny and offensive cartoon.
Because it appears to refer directly to Obama, and, as I have said now 4 times or more in this thread, the “inhumanity,” of the African race (based upon perceived similarities with apes) was used as a justification for slavery and segregation. Old political cartoons that show blacks? Yeah, they’re basically drawings of apes and chimps.
And yes, you managed to illustrate your point to an extent - it was every bit as unfunny as the original, but less offensive.
i agree fully. BUT… IMO, who cares about the uneducated. Someone educated person will explain it to them, and then they will become educated. Transfer of knowledge, the world then becomes a better place. The whole uproar (from the media, sharpton) about the cartoon enables the uneducated to stay that way. IMO, sharpton and other people like sharpton are holding down the people they claim to protect, or “fight” for.
There are still a reasonable number of people who think Obama is a Muslim.
The uneducated willfully cling to their beliefs because they have been taught that everyone’s a winner and that there’s a bit of truth in every point of view and that diverse opinions are valuable and have taken this to mean that if you don’t know what you’re talking about, you have not only the right, but almost the responsibility, to ignore what the knowledgeable person is talking about.
I don’t like Sharpton, you won’t get argument from me there.
You don’t have to be a mod to see what people have posted in the past. It was an honest question. You can see every thread a person posted in on this site. I happened to find it so I looked. The reason I asked is because you only reply to threads like this. I was asking towards your automotive interest since this IS an automotive forum with an off topic section. And I stated that I only see your name come up when it has to do with race issues.
As for the post I pointed out, then you justify your reply to numerous racist threads with more racism. That it is OK? Isn’t that part of the problem you mentioned before?
And I’m not concerned about your little secret either. That’s your heritage. I’m didn’t say anything about that. The comments I reply to are more in regards to your replies you make in the topics. You seem to get up in arms over anything that can be pushed as borderline racist or twisted into that.
I’m sure you are an ok guy and if I meet you at a show or cruise, say hi. Maybe I’ll buy you a beer.
