He was trying to sell them?
I am sure he certainly would have sold considering the economic depression his nation was in because of us.
Where did you study global politics and war again?
Oh, is that so? LOL @ making shit up as you go.
That’s funny because I was just going to ask you the same question!
And what exactly did I make up?
Are you being serious or just defensive here? I legitimately would like to know your experience in the subject so I can better gauge the level of discussion we should be having here.
Are you being serious? I’ve never saw someone with higher than a High School Diploma use unsupported opinions of what a leader would do in a finacial sitation as a valid argument.
glitch is so mad.
Yes, I am upset that some Joe Schmoe from Buffalo thinks he knows what Saddam would do in a given situation AND tries to use it as a valid argument.
Penfold needs a WWSD braclet.
I never stated it as fact, you may have assumed I did. We could have purchased the oil at market price. Though that is really not important because the whole point was to demonstrate that we didnt invade for the oil. The cost of the war is greater than the return on oil.
Arn’t you the one who assumes we invaded Iraq for oil and uses the fact that they have oil as a valid argument?
All I did was defend evidence with a possible example of how it could be plausible, you on the otherhand argue a position based on the fact that two varibles have corelation.
i told you the plane would take off
That’s what I am saying. I know a lot of people who are there or headed there including both of my brothers and brother in law. They do not seem to think it is for wrong reasons. Then again they are just doing what they are told.
Even if it was about oil…so what. Heaven forbid someone tries to bring peace to a radical part of the world that is torn by civil war and Genocidal dictators that control a vital point in the global economic market. So what would everyone be saying if we didn’t go to Iraq and Sadam said “fuck you everyone, this oil is all mine mine mine”, and cut off supplying the counties he did? Would things be so much better than they are right now? Would the cost of oil, which is the most crucial form of energy ON EARTH, be down if a large portion of the supply to key economic countries had suddenly been cut off? Where would they then get their oil? What would happen to our supply? It is indeed a slippery slope. I know that Iraq does not export nearly as much oil as Mexico, Venezuela etc. but, take that supply away and see what happens to your quality of living when there is now the same demand on the most sought after natural resource on the planet, and the 3rd largest oil supply on Earth just decided to tap out and no longer offer to sell. China, which is now one of the worlds leading importers of oil, has no natural oil of its own to help offset its consumption. They rely completely on foreign oil. What happens when the largest country in the world with 1/6th the world population decides that to keep its country going, it must take what it needs from other countries, resulting in WWIII?
This is all hypothetical of course, but I’m just making a point that things COULD have exacerbated to a total global chaos shit storm had we done nothing at all. Deny it all you want. But had Sadam decided to cut off all ties and no longer sell oil (which he could have). Life as we know it would cease. The price would sky rocket to the point where it would turn most of the earth into a 3rd world country. Kinda hard to ship goods around the globe with no fuel. I don’t know about you guys, but when a wildcard who has set fire to his oil reserves in the past just to fuck with other countries holds the 3rd largest oil reserve in the world at his disposal… it kinda makes me nervous.
Just some food for thought. Again. Totaly hypothetical.
we know they have some pretty bad weapons at some point (we have the receipts on a lot of the weapons since we sold them to them long ago, not the killing nerve gas stuff but you know what I mean, its just a matter if he used them all up or not making all those mass graves)
we know they broke tons of sanctions
we knew they had oil
The people of Iraq can now profit and hopefully pay off some of the money we owed them, I’m sure we’ll see that last part.
I just hope we were wrong, and there wasn’t and will never be, any weapons found, because chances are, they will be in the hands of some awful people.
Well. He did have massive amounts of pesticide, which in its concentrated form is pretty much nerve gas. Kinda strange that a country mainly made of rock and sand would need more pesticide than the US uses in a few years. But meh, it matters not at this point. I just wish people could see more of the big picture instead of only focusing on the “right now” aspect of a lot of things. I really do believe that the ends will justify the means.
I want to point out two things about what you said but don’t feel like commenting on it as a whole.
1.) oil WAS cut off from iraq
2.) Iraq is in the FERTILE CRESCENT
we didnt land on oil in iraq… oil in iraq landed on US!!!
also, fewer dead people > cheaper gas and big oil profits.
maybe that wasnt obvious?
As a soldier, I am all for a war for oil. Oil drives this country, poweres our economy and without it, the USA fails to be a world power. I don’t see a better reason. Fuck going to war over BS like genocide thousands of miles away. We fuckin need oil, or we just another mexico.
This probably came on the heels of Brazil announcing it’s find of major elephant fields off the coast in the Atlantic. Rather than be outdone and lose position in the oil industry American oil companies are now being forced into moves by circumstances out of their control.
