OFFICIAL: 2008 ELECTION THREAD

too bad they weren’t around when your mom was pregnant…

She’s going to sink the McSame ship sooooo fast, I love it. Pregnant teen daughter, DWI husband, she’s for teaching Creationism, and not just anti-abortion but ANTI SEX ED - christ she makes John McCain look even more moderate (no doubt part of why she got the nod, to appeal to the far-right and the evangelist idiots where he could not for fear of alienating moderates like me EVEN MORE). Lets not even get into the fact that she supported the bridge-to-nowhere (then lied about it during her acceptance speach), that she supports drilling in ANWR (even McCain didn’t) and was part / is part of an Alaskan sepratists movement. Oh, and her COMPLETE LACK of foreign policy experience - she makes Obama look even MORE qualified by comparison.

Oh and her tranny-bangs. Don’t forget those

??? From what I see Obama only supports late term abortions when they mothers health is in question and the procedure is deemed necessary.

Is this what you are talking about? I mean it is not hard to say little tid bits of what he actually is for without including the rest and try to make a person look bad

“In 1997, Obama voted against SB 230, which would have turned doctors into felons by banning so-called partial-birth abortion, & against a 2000 bill banning state funding. Although these bills included an exception to save the life of the mother, they didn’t include anything about abortions necessary to protect the health of the mother.”

and also what Obama proposed which is most likely what you are referring to

“The 2007 version of FOCA proposed: “It is the policy of the United States that every woman has the fundamental right to choose to bear a child, to terminate a pregnancy prior to fetal viability, or to terminate a pregnancy after fetal viability when necessary to protect the life or health of the woman.””

see, I’m 100% fine with that.

besides, disallowing abortion as a whole (as the Republicans want to do) won’t stop it, it’ll just drive it underground or off US soil. which just serves to make it more dangerous, not to eliminate or reduce it. hmm, drugs are illegal but that doesn’t stop them from being sold. speeding is illegal but people still do it.

you can’t legislate EVERYTHING, heh - this is just YET another illustration of why I feel like “my” Republican party has lost course, “we” used to stand for the freedom of choice, for small government, for the rights of individuals, now with the Neo-Cons and Religious Right / evangelicals / christians running the show us moderates get left out to rot and told the country will be making choices for “our safety” when I don’t feel any safer boarding an aircraft just because I had to take off my shoes and put my travel-size cologne into a fucking ziplock…

wow…dont ever say something like that again. That is crossing the line.

Because people in this world are sick, that’s how.23 weeks is only approx. 5 mos as well.My wife is currently about 20 weeks right now and I can barely even finish typing a reply just thinking about it:cry:.The worst part is the doctors that are doing it.And yes I felt this way long before my upcoming child being born.
D

what sickens me is that with medical technology these days, there is a decent chance that the infant will survive at 5 months.

AHAHHAHAHHAHA VP has pregnant teen daughter…way to underscore that whole “family values, personal responsibility, abstinence” thing

.

or what, you’ll do siqqq transmarrowbird burnouts in front of my house while downing a Coors light and smoking weed and fishing at work (with NASCAR on the AM radio)?

what “sickens” me is people with such close-minded neanderthal-esque concepts about life :violin:

I was worried about it when I heard it over the weekend but it seems to be playing well.

Tony Perkins, president of the influential conservative Family Research Council, on Monday issued a statement supporting the Palin family.
“Fortunately, Bristol is following her mother and father’s example of choosing life in the midst of a difficult situation. We are committed to praying for Bristol and her husband-to-be and the entire Palin family as they walk through a very private matter in the eyes of the public,” Perkins said in a written statement.

Might end up helping us.

HA. You’re DREAMING…Tons of evangelicals will stay home now b/c of this. Plus it just goes to show how McCain did NO vetting and it was a knee-jerk reaction to a great DNC

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26501863/

I liked how Obama came right out and said it’s not a campaign issue, and not to take it as such. It reinforces the theme of his speech where he pleaded with the American public to elect leaders based on issues, not on stupid Rove-style politics about flag pins and who hates Muslims more and family members’ actions.

Really goes to show how well abstinence only works though. If someone who grew up in a conservative household like that doesn’t listen to it, who would?

Palin was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it. Also yesterday, we found out that Palin worked for a 527 group organized by Ted Stevens, who is now facing trial on corruption charges. Then came the news that she has retained an attorney for that Troopergate ethics investigation. And finally is today’s Washington Post story noting that Palin employed a lobbying firm to secure earmarks – which are taboo in McCain World – for Wasilla while she was its mayor.

This VP pick is the gift that keeps on giving. This is why you don’t make your pick based on what will undercut the speech of a lifetime in the media.

One thing I LOLed at on the CNN bottom line yesterday: Former DNC chairman makes statements that hurricane Gustav shows that God favors democrats.

Do you think McCain knew aboot the preggo daughter?
I can’t believe he didn’t.
This is one f’ed up election year.:biglaugh:

McCain Manager: ‘This Election is Not About Issues’

Give the press a week to vet Sarah and then tell me about the polls:

Let me get this straight…she’s 44 and pregnant with her 5th child, although no one actually knows this until she’s almost 8 months along…her staff is shocked! OK, well, I guess it’s possible.

She finds out the baby has Down’s Syndrome and decides to have him anyway. Good for her. She thinks every fetus has a right to life.

She travels to Texas at 36 weeks, something that is not recommended at this stage in pregnancies period, much less to those who are about to give birth to a high risk infant. OK, well, she’s putting her role as governor ahead of her concerns about her child…but…OK.

She begins to leak amniotic fluid (her water essentially breaks). Both she and her baby are now at risk for infection because the sac protecting the child is now breached. The standard of care is to get to a hospital ASAP. Hopefully, one with a NICU, since she is having a DS baby. 5th pregnancies tend to deliver faster than 1st or second. Especially when the child is premature and smaller. Her response to this situation, however, was unconscionable:

  • She gives her speech
  • She gets on a plane bound for Alaska without telling the airline she is in labor
  • She gets to Seattle for a layover, but doesn’t go to any of the state of the art hospitals there
    • She continues into Anchorage. But doesn’t stop at any of the state of the art hospitals there
    • She gets in a car and travels 50 miles to the 74-bed Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Wasilla and delivers there, 12 hours after the onset of labor.

This is the person John McCain chose to demonstrate how he puts America first? Good God, she doesn’t even put her family first, much less her high risk unborn child. Her own political ambitions are evidently far more important than the welfare of her baby. Her husband said a ‘fish-picker’ couldn’t be born in Texas. I don’t know about that…but this whole thing sounds awfully fishy, that’s for sure.

THEN…she accepts the nomination knowing that her 17-year old daughter is pregnant, but no pre-announcement spin goes out. She and the McCain campaign just throw her poor daughter to wolves. And she will definitely have time to raise her mentally handicapped infant. Family values is about more than opposing abortion and gay marriage.

Judgment, temperament, experience. Hmm…
That’s the only reason she came out about the daughter being preggo. When they found out this story, coupled with the fact taht the daughter was concurrently pulled out of school for 5 months, people figured it was her kid the first time.
