OFFICIAL: 2008 ELECTION THREAD

No, I just think his links to Ayers, Wright and Acorn go a long way toward cutting through his eloquent speeches and getting to the heart of what he really stands for which are far leftist policies.

EDIT:

There’s a reason I’ve been pretty inactive in these political threads here lately. Reading through and seeing all the really uneducated posts (from both sides) it’s clearly a waste of time to talk politics on NYSpeed. I wouldn’t mind having beers with a few of the people on here on both sides, but the vast majority fall into that “undecided voter” idiot column that are unfortunately going to decide this election.

McCain simply can’t compete with the style of Obama with these voters. He couldn’t even convey one his greatest points last night. McCain brought up that Obama was the first president to talk about raising corporate taxes when the economy was in this much trouble since Hoover. Ok, great, but he failed to drive the point home and explain to these people that Hoover’s decisions were the catalyst to turn a recession into the great depression. I seriously doubt the majority of undecided voters know enough about presidential history to know that, and a better speaker would have explained that to them.

It’s ironic that Hoover was a Republican, and all these years later a Democrat is about to be elected in the midst of another recession and implement the same policies of taxes and tariffs that may very well lead to another great depression. I wonder if we’ll get a Republican to give us fireside chats in 2012?

“I am the great and wonderful Oz, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain/styrofoam column”
:biglaugh:

The only link he has is to Wright. Have you even explored Ayers educational belief system?

Why don’t you explain what policies you think an Obama Administration is going to have because its looks like Obama is going to win this?

So we should ignore this because it is all made up and just go to Barry’s website for the truth?

Clinton went in with the same economic doctrine and many of the same advisors, when the economy was in a rut in '92. 8 years of prosperity followed.

…The whole ACORN thing…

They have over 350,000 members. In the last 4 years, 15 members have gotten in trouble for voter registration fraud. I’ll be interested to see what unravels from the raids going on today, but unless they uncover some broad high level scheme my view of ACORN will be that it is just what this country needs: grass roots community and political movements trying to fix what the people see as problems. Oh, and 0.004% of their members have taken it too far.

How dare Obama have connections to a huge group working to improve this country that is 0.004% corrupt?!

Fry it is useless to try to convince these people that ACORN is not evil and it is actually a great organization. Flipping through the news today all these people bashing ACORN fail to mention these percentages and actually what it is that ACORN does.

:thankyou:

I thought this was important enough to simply post again. Thank you Fry.

what debate were you watching? You’re a fucking idiot.

wow jeg that was srsly so stupid.

srsly.

No shit, everyone knows Brokaw can’t pronounce words with “L” in them

oh really? what about this?

In 1997, Obama Reviewed Ayers’ Book, A Kind And Just Parent: The Children Of Juvenile Court, In The Chicago Tribune, Calling It “A Searing And Timely Account Of The Juvenile Court System.” (Chicago Tribune, 12/21/97)
Yeah he ONLY knew him was from the education board they were both on :bloated:. I’d say he knew him quite well.

wat? because he reviewed his book? So was everyone who reviewed mein kampf a personal friend of Adolf’s?

Sol Stern characterizes ACORN’s opposition to free trade, their support for price controls, and for the Community Reinvestment Act, as in line with the left wing of the Democratic Party, and claims they sometimes opt for “undisguised authoritarian socialism.”[36] Stanley Kurtz argues in National Review that “ACORN’s living-wage campaigns drive businesses out of the very neighborhoods where jobs are needed most. ACORN’s opposition to welfare reform only threatens to worsen the self-reinforcing cycle of urban poverty and family breakdown.” [37]

Just ignore this part, I guess.

:picard:

Lets pretend that Obama and Ayers are close friends, and have been close friends for lets say 20 years…

So?

In contrast, John Atlas argues in a Huffington Post editorial that ACORN has “accumulated many enemies” and has been “subjected to vicious attacks from business lobbyists, conservative politicians, and right-wing media.” This same source alleges that the George W. Bush administration has sought to harass ACORN with accusation of voter fraud.[40]

Just ignore that part too then? Besides, who cares about the “political perceptions” part. I much prefer to read facts and draw my own conclusions.

Well then I hope you aren’t just reading Wikipedia.

lol naw, but it tends to avoid the “hey that’s biased” crowd on here. :stuck_out_tongue:

FWIW Acorn does seem to be a bit shady. I’m just playing Bue Eyed Devil’s advocate. Well, not exactly, but it’s still a funny play on words.

I’m interested to see what comes of the raids on Acorn’s offices.

its the fact that he associates himself with radical socialists. Is that the type of person you want running this country?
