The NR750 was Honda’s technological tour-de-force, a showcase showing what the company could build and do in the nineties.

The NR750 was Honda’s chance to woo the world and the world said WOW!

Honda gave Mitsuyoshi Kohama and a team of designers free creative range and an open check book to dream up the most technologically advanced motorcycle ever.

Kohama delivered with the beautifully engineered, world record holding NR750!.

GP racer Loris Capirossi set new speed records in both the standing start and flying mile riding the NR750. The ultimate in technical innovation, only 200 of these machines were
built by Mitsuyoshi Kohama. Employing advanced engine technology,
complex exhaust routing and design touches like carbon fiber composite
bodywork and a titanium-tinted screen, Kohama’s Honda design team reached
new levels in performance, design and technical innovation with the NR750. The engine is an oval-pistoned V-4 unit and is the only production
bike to incorporate this system, developed by Honda to yield V-8 performance from an engine with half the cylinders. The NR750 was also the first production motorcycle to feature carbon fiber and titanium as standard
composite parts. The PGM-FI fuel injection was state-of-the-art in 1992, employing seven sensors and a 16-bit CPU to control the eight injectors as well as the ignition timing. In addition it altered the position of an inlet duct in the airbox to regulate airflow. 747cc Oval Pistons in a V4, turn indicators in the rear view mirrors, real carbon fiber bits, twin fuel injectors, twin spark plugs, titanium con-rods, titanium-coated alloy frame to prevent
scratches, 260kph, 15,000rpm!

honda now has VTEC on bikes

Yep, back in 1983 as a matter of fact.

Ok, im a nerd about old bikes, so here we go… i have nice pictures of each bike but im too lazy/tired to post them tonight…

Kawasaki was the first company to do this although not actually recognized officially for it, since the kit was a showroom “option” but they deff set the paths for things to come. They all were heavy pigs, extremely large, but were pretty quick in a straight line for it’s era. Their purpose was to have the 1000cc power with the 600cc handling/package/weight. They obv didn’t really do well, but meh. They still pretty much rule…

1978-79 Kawasaki Z1RTC Turbo
There was a company called Turbo Cycle Corp that pretty much made this a factory “option” off the sales floor. They worked with Kawi to produce this and based the kit off of the old z1 turbo kits in production. 6-8psi on a literbike, yummy…
-1015cc
-558 lbs (wet)
-500 produced

1982 Honda CX 500 Tc Turbo
First production turbocharged motorcycle. Nicknamed Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, out of boost it was terribly slow, in boost it snapped your neck back  Four-stroke V-twin layout, had multiple layout problems but overall the best out of the class. Led to the CX 650 Turbo in 1983…
-497cc
-581 lbs (wet)
-2525 imported

1982-83 Yamaha XJ650 Lj/Lk Seca Turbo
Inline 4 banger, least amount of problems out of the bunch, chassis wasn’t up to par compared to honda, factory options included wastegate spring for 14psi and washers for the mufflers to create more back pressure
-653cc
-565 lbs (wet)
-Imported number est. under 1500

1983 Suzuki XN85D Turbo
First of bunch to introduce a 16" front wheel, lower handlebars, and single shock rear suspension. Slower than the rest, but all around a solid and the most innovative yet. Stupid stupid rare, only made for like 3-4 months…
-673cc
-551 lbs (wet)
-300 imported, less than 100 reported in existance currently

1984-85 Kawasaki ZX750E1/2 Turbos
Finally an official turbocharged factory bike, and the quickest out of the bunch. Bigger displacement and a larger Hitachi turbo, sloppy handling though. Really started to innovate the aftermarket support, people put down over 200whp with em in 84-85…
-738cc
-556 lbs (wet)
-roughly 6000 made in U.S.
