The track is gone gator. it was torn up in the mid to late 90’s because of supposed PCB contamination from the oil used to wet down the runoff road and so forth. Personally I think it’s a bunch of b.s. because a mobile home park wanted to expand and they have built right up to the guidewire fence. Stands to rwason if there was all that contamination then the zoning board wouldn’t let them put housing on contaminated land. Just politics if you ask me.
Anyways, here are a few images of what it looks like now…
I did bring home a piece of blacktop from the track and will always keep it as a momento of racing history that is forever gone from this area.
It just kills me to see this dragway destroyed all for the sake of politics and ulterior motives.
Brodie was the one Jiminy Peak bought then closed down, right? I used to ski there a lot, it was more interesting than Jiminy. They had this awesome blue square cruiser trail that you could really haul ass on, but it had rollers every hundred feet or so with fall-aways on the other side, so you could launch off of them and fly for a good distance before you landed. I must have been like 11 or 12 last time I was there.
I grew up right down the road from there, my younger brother used to work at JeepWorld, which is right in front of the old dragstrip.
This area ties into a few trails, that are fun to putt around on- but the area does get patrolled every so often, just a heads up. Definitely have done a lot of riding in that area.
I usedto ride wheelers in that area, my dad made alot of passes there, in fact if you go to a small speed shop in glens falls the owner, Crossey, has a ton of old photos of Shirley Muldoney racing there, amonst many other people that would be regulars there, your right its a nice piece of history, i wish i was around then to see what it was like in the grudge match days!
