Haven’t torn it down yet, but pretty sure the rod bearing(s) was the metal in my oil. So I definitely want to replace all my bearings: main, rod, & cam. Something will need done with the crankshaft and replace the rings since I was using oil.
Question is do I:
get the crank cleaned up, my block machined (align hone, cylinders cleaned up, whatever else needs done), bearings replaced, everything assembled
buy a 350 short block already assembled
bite the bullet and buy a 383 stroker short block with 4 bolt mains (and suffer through the “we could have paid for part of a swimming pool” comments)
I have a feeling all the machining and assembly will cost almost as much as an assembled short block.
Would forged internals be overkill?
I’m finding prices for a 383 short block from $2600 - $3700 depending on components.
