Hrm… Well the auto trans is unreliable, so watch out for that.
what happens with insurence of a salvage/rebuilt car?
you still get average kbb if totaled again… I called up my agent before i signed for the car to make sure of that
Me personally. I wouldnt buy a salvage titled anything unless it was for track duty. Resale on a salvage title sucks because of examples exactly like this.
you’re gonna buy it cheap if you do, but if you sell it, it’s gonna have to go cheap as well so don’t plan on selling it for a profit. it was probably totaled for the quarter panel damage as that gets into a lot of work ($$)as long as it wasn’t twisted up i’d say grab it.
who cares about resale when you’re getting the car for 1/2 the price to start out with? When you buy something like this you know the value is less then a non-salvage title car, but thats exactly why you can get a 14k car for 7k
My 02 wrangler was totaled by the first owner with 2800 miles on it. Some guy picked it up at the auction and fixed it, had it inspected and got a rebuild title for it. I paid $10,500 for it last may. Seems like a lot of money, but try finding a wrangler that’s basically brand new for under 17 grand.
If you plan on owning the car for a while then it’s a great deal. If you wanna sell it soon then you aren’t going to get top dollar for it, but you didn’t pay out your ass for it anyways so who cares…
let me clarify- my choice to look at acuras/hondas was so that I might find a long term, reliable, low mileage car before medical school. This acura was all those things and on the cheap side. Its def not a purchase that i was looking to flip any time soon. Medical school is going to be 4-5 years, and with this cost, I would own the car. one less thing to worry about at school. Insurance of said car is something that i wonder about.
my mechanic actually popped it on a lift yesterday and called me up with two thumbs up. He was impressed with the condition and was actually surprised it was a salvage vehicle. He def could see where repair work had been done on the right side, but noted that there was nothing that should prevent purchase, esp if i could get it for under 6500.
Call your insurance company. I know a few will not insure salvage title cars, so make sure you can insure it first.
