painting spun aluminum

I’m looking for something to spray on spun aluminum to make them dark but to keep the look of the metal.

My question is if they make a semi transparent paint that can do this? I guess it would be a dark tinted clear coat.

ya its the same stuff i used for my taillights to tint them i got it in a small glass bottle from niagara hobby

You can find translucent paint but it’s predominantly for modeling and I’d be weary of it’s durability. What are you spraying?

I want to paint my wheel covers, but I don’t think I want to have them flat black. I want the spun aluminum to come through

I used the spray on version at niagara hobby for my turn signals and tail lights. Do you think it would work/hold up on my wheel covers?

if your spaying with a paint sprayer… tint clear coat with black and spray.

exactly what i was going to say just tint the clear

Black anodize then clear paint. Maybe.

That’s what i was going to say.

Might not even need to clear

^True, I was just trying to stop/slow fading.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

but yeah, what lafengas said.

I was under the impression black hard anodize was UV and corrosion resistant.

I have seen it fade but maybe that was from heat.

thanks for the suggestions. I’m going to try the black anodized route.
