He died for something he believed in. Whether I agree with his convictions or not, his death is a tragedy.
(on a side note, and please don’t whore up the thread responding to this, I agree with being in Afghanistan… and although I disagree with being in Iraq, I would never dishonour any U.S. soldier’s death.)

But you do everytime you say we shouldn’t be there. you are saying he died for nothing, when in reality he died for YOU. If you join the military you understand what you are getting into. most of a people know want to go fight. pretty much he showed money means nothing if you and your loved ones aren’t safe and other are suffering around the world when you could go make a difference.

this thread isn’t the place for this. start another thread if you want to debate this.

they do get alot though, free housing and healthcare for them and their family if they’re stationed at a base. free college, a pension, and alot of large corporations have to hire so many military guys under affirmative action, plus some companies consider military service the equivalent of a college degree! the 18,ooo just seems REALLY low b/c it’s hard to put a dollar amount on that other stuff… all of which is greatly deserved of course!

free housing = projects
healthcare doenst most jobs give that to there unemployess…ps it isnt free for spouse’s and children
free college when do they have time to take classes…and it is 75 percent tuiton asst…but still have to pay for books etc…lots of employers in the real world do that for there employes
you are not going to get rich in the military,
thats why i got out of the military.i had one son and i was a E-4 at the time and receiveing food stamps…if the military pay is so nice why was i getting food stamps

no most companies don’t ‘give’ healthcare, i pay around 360 a month. plus co pays for all visits and meds
college money is college money, find time, thousands a year do, hell i had surgery last week and the doctor graduated from cornell and the army paid for it all… not bad. he found time to be in the army and get a medical degree from an ivy league school.
of course you’re not going to get rich in the military, they don’t promise you that either. i’m just saying that the 18,000 is really more since full time soldiers get alot of ‘living’ arangements supplied by the army. i’m not even trying to say it’s comparable to the work force, but more than what it looks like on paper.
I agree but the only problem is now they are trying to attack over time pay compesation for people in the military. Basically saying if you get a job and it was based on your schooling from the military the employer doesn;t have to pay you Overtime since the goverment paid for your school and didn;t cost you a dime.
At least thats what the deal was 5 months ago when I was reading about that shit.
I really do feel that military people get the short end of the stick…
Chirst I didn;t know till my brother was in boot camp (which he was medically discarged during) that you have to pay for all your hair cuts and uniforms and shit like that out of your supposed “signing bonus”. WTF kind of shit is that…
I know when I was at basic for the AF, they took money out of our paychecks for all the uniforms that are “issued” to us. Right now it’s up to 100% tuition assistance. I would be taking classes this fall but I might be getting deployed around the same time. Most likely I’ll just do college once I get out.

The pay is before taxes. I’m only an E-3 with less than 2 years so that’s $1407 a month. The nice thing is they give you money for groceries. And the housing is like the projects. I live in a duplex so luckily I knew the neigbors beforehand. Here there’s 2 types of housing, old housing and new housing. Eventually they’re going to tear down some of the old housing cause it isn’t up to par.
