I think I have covered my bases here.

+1 to internships. i got into my employer as a summer intern when at nccc. that fall work switched me to part time regular and when i finished my 2 year i was a full time employee. they have been paying reimbursement for my tuition at buff state as im part time in school for my 4 year. been here just over 5 years working in my career and love it.

X2 - super happy how things turned out, couldn’t ask for more, especially at my age

My friends b/f went to school for this and loves his job although he’s making 11/ hr with a degree, so yes waste of time.

Not so much on the lawyer front. There are far more lawyers and people graduating from law school than there are legal jobs available. It’s an incredibly tough job market for an extremely expensive education.

That would really suck lol

Seems like everyone is getting MBAs now I wonder if that will change the game the same way everyone has a bachelors now?

The thing with MBAs are that there’s a TON of people getting them from low-level colleges; those ones mean very little. I know when we were looking for a manager here, we had a ton of ā€œUniversity of Phoenix MBAā€ and they were put at the bottom of the pile that met the education/job requirements. Ones from Ranked/Reputation schools pulled a TON more weight when it came to getting an interview.

The market is flooded with people with MBA’s and JD’s. There’s a number of people that went back to school for an advanced degree when they couldn’t find a job. Now that they’ve graduated, their prospects aren’t much better, and all they’ve done is increase their nondischargable debt.

Could not agree more! But this also gets back into the internship/experience thing. Getting the MBA/JD right after a BS/BA degree does nothing but hurt your career most often, and right now it can be catastrophic. Degrees + No Experience = No Job for lots of reasons.

I’m actually in school for my EMBA right now. (But I picked a reputable/ranked college, which makes a big difference). But this wasn’t a fly-by-night decision, it was always something I wanted to do, and took me a few years of research and prepping to get into the program I’m in. I’ll be 11 years post BS degree in industry (17 years since I started interning in Engineering/Product Development positions) when I graduate with my EMBA. Lots of Experience + World Class EMBA = Higher probability/lower risk on finding a MUCH better position than I’m in currently.

I was looking at UBs EMBA Program, 30k a year, god damn, thats more than my 4 year degree, but it’s all about convenience I suppose

I can’t wait to get back into college and get a degree in something obscure

They have an associates in basket weaving at ECC if you’re interested

Mine is more than that; but mine is a ā€œprogramā€ cost; meaning it’s not yearly, it’s just here is what the program costs. It runs on a different calendar than the normal school year.

I looked at the UB program, and it seemed ok for what it was; it’s rankings were lower than here at the University of Utah.

MBAs are like LS1 swaps. Everyone says they are going to get one but few actually do.
What I will say though is that if you go to any Fortune 500 company and look at their leadership team you will see a bunch of them.

Also I would note for anyone interested in business in the least they should get one. While it is extra workload the material for me(im a business nerd) was inspiring and thought provoking. Even if I never put the knowledge to use I am glad to have obtained it. Won’t really know for another 10 years or so.

Anyhow back to dickmeasuring!

I can’t agree with this more! What I’ve learned in this program since it started in Aug; Wow… I look at how company management/leadership is done and how many companies and people placed in positions of power at companies suck at it.

If you want to make real money right after your MBA, go to a top B school if you can make it in. The people that I know that went to Top B schools all had multiple offers from great companies all starting right around $100,000, and the careers they had proir were not all that good. It is not a waste of money if you go to the right school.

This thread is quite funny, Cougarspeed did a nice job capturing 4 pages into 3 lines.

An MBA from anything but a top b-school is pretty pointless… they have become too watered down.

I bet you have life all figured out.

Nice sarcasm, but if you think an MBA means what it used to… CFA or something of the like is much more valuable.

How come the average earnings of an MBA is some 30k+ over a traditional BA? What do you do for a living? Why are most Fortune 500 executive teams comprised of MBAs?
