People who pay their own gas bill...

do you own or still renting … if you own its like 400 for the tank and you can put it in yourself… if renting there could be something wrong and it will not matter unless you have a cool landlord

I’ve gotten screwed on this as well.

December I was out of my place for nearly the entire month, with the heat set at 55. My bill is $135, which is almost double the norm. I call and complain, since it was an estimate they gave me the option of reading the meter to them over the phone. Turns out their estimate was low, and I owed another $30.

No matter how much I tried to understand the logic of how my bill could be higher, when I kept my place 10-15deg cooler than normal. They wouldn’t listen, kept saying “We have two numbers, one for when you moved in and the one you just gave us. We subtract them then bill you for the difference”

Lesson learned, fuck the utility companies.

1250 SQ Ft House with gas stove and a wife and all that. On balanced billing I pay 154 a month right now. My actual usage bill for these past few months was 40-50 dollars. In the winter it is near obvisously much higher I just prefer to not pay the bigger bills in the winter. My bill amount has been readjusted a few times I assume with the cost of gas going up. One thing to watch is when on balanced keep a eye out for how much you owe them versus the budget billed.

not enough info to see a pattern, our bill comes with a sweet bar graph that shows actual and estimated readings for the past year.

When we first moved in I was going down to the shallow basement every other month to get the actual reading. The guy that lived here prior must of liked it at about 80 inside during the winter because our estimated readings were nuts.

LOL! Mine has been $40/month all summer, and gets as high as $400 in the winter for a 1700 sqft house with new insulation.

i didn’t think you showered anyways, isn’t that how you maintain your hairstyle with natural skuzz

same… 2000 sq ft and my balance bill is 175, it hits between 350-400 in the winter. I need a new furnace.

You need to call national fuel, and talk to a person.

Give them the reading on your meter, they will re-issue you a bill right there.

It takes a couple days for it to come in the mail, and a couple days for it to get updated online.

To avoid this in the future, just read the meter during your reading window time period (ask the rep), and enter the 4 digits into the automated system.

National fuel never comes to read my meter, and if I didn’t read it myself, they would highball estimate it.

I have a 2 family house, and the upper unit is not rented out until august. They were estimating like 60-70 bucks a month for nothing running, not even the hot water tank.

I wish my gas bill was that low.:frowning: Im on budget billing and mine just went up 30 bucs. Im assuming from the price of gas since all my utilities went up including electric.:frowning:

they look at the useage (spellin) every 3 months and fig it out that way so it sounds like the cost and useage went up… im sure “she” is taking longer showers and such. my budget when i was in lackawanna was 375 month… now its 177 and the house is 3 times the size…

Newman, how big is the place in question, that would be helpful. My gas bills are usually around $100-125 a month for a 2,000 sq ft house, newer furnace, etc. The thing that keeps the bill up more then it should be in the summer has to be the dryer. i don’t think me or the GF have ever cooked anything in the stove.

it’s only 800 sq feet, but i haven’t used the furnace.

The houses in your area are some of the older homes in BLo, so it is very likely that it leaks more then your STi.

But that has almost nothing to do with your NG use in summer w/furnace off (but on pilot).

if its a old HWT and furnace … i can see that 50ish month just pilot alone… now do you pay for the hotwater and is it gas… go on budget guy
