People who served in the Armed Forces...

I wanted to start this thread to see how many of you served, are serving, or even plan to serve in the United States Armed Forces. At the minimum I want to know what branch but feel free to give your rank, unit, and so on.

My sister is currently at Whidbey. Nice place out there.

you aren’t lying. i loved it out there.

I thought there would be more of us in here… I guess we really are an elite group.

Honest question: Who is for/against Iraq War that is serving?

Could you possibly simplify a more complicated and complex issue? For/against? Are you serious, a 5+ year conflict with hundreds of nations, religions, nationalities, and ethnic groups involved in varying degrees and aspects and you break it down to are we for/against?

I would decline to answer that.

I think at the most simplistic level, it’s a very fair chance. Was it a good idea or bad?

What the initial invasion?

under what we know now or what we thought we knew then?

are you asking if we agree with getting rid of Saddam?

Or do we agree with staying to provide support for those who replaced him?

We can dive into this if you want but there is an Iraq War thread.

I am curious to those that are still pro Iraq War that serve military. Simple.

i think if you ask most that are serving over there, many will say there is a lot of good stuff going on there, and they support the war. you never hear about the good stuff in the media but there is definately progress being made. its still a long way to go though.

That’s what I was looking for.

BTW, I can find the good out of punching some kid in the mouth and say “what doesn’t kill ya makes ya stronger”. A subtle point but a point nonetheless.

I was always opposed to the war. It has destroyed this country more by jumping into Iraq for almost no reason. I understand that Sudam was a terrible person :stfu but we should have been fighting one war at a time. All the money spent over there for the little progress made has sunk this country just like Vietnam did in the 70s. Now were in another recession :idiots

Anyone else currently serving or has served?

basically everyone in my mom’s side of the family has, i don’t know the specifics because they don’t really talk about it… old or young. i do appreciate those of you who have served, someone has to do it or there would be a draft. :nod

I decline to answer that under any and all circumstances.

i have never served, but thats pretty much because i dont like being told what to do… lol my whole family is millitary on my dads side. my moms brother was a navy seal. and my dads brothers were all either in the navy, marines or the airforce, gramps was on the uss newjersey during wwII. yall have my respect thats for sure, after 9-11 i was going to join, like many people did mostly out of sense of duty to protect our country :ponder but my lungs collapsed, several times actually so that idea got :wtfdeflated…

4 years in as a SrA/Senior Airman(E-4) in the NY Air National Guard stationed at Stratton in Scotia, been to Antarctica/New Zealand 3 times so far for a total of ~130 days and will be going again this year, and hope to make a Greenland trip next year!!!
i think it was one of the best decisions i made in my entire life
benefits help it as well ;D

and NZ is prolly the one of the very few countries rite now that our dollar is worth something

and tips(usually 15%) are included in the bill at restaurants there
