Not sure if anyone would be interested, but since most of the members on here are relatively young and still building our careers, I thought it might be beneficial to use Pittspeed as a networking tool for business. I know that for my own career, having contacts in the financial, legal, and many other industries will be very helpful in the future as other people my age grow in their careers and become decision makers. I didn’t know if anyone else would be interested, but it might be cool to get some of the Pittspeed guys together for a business lunch downtown sometime to get to know what industries everyone is in and exchange info so that we have more business contacts in the future. I am an accountant and I know that it would be great for me to have contacts in the banking, legal, IT, and other industries so I assume it would be the same for other people in other industries.
If anyone is interested in getting together during the lunch hour or for a happy hour sometime, let me know and I can try and coordinate something.
I’d be in for a happy hour, assuming it’s somewhat controlled, not just a bunch of proffesionals using “networking” as a chance to get lit around the bar…
No, I am serious about using this as networking time. I actually want to meet some of you guys in a business setting and see what other people do and make some contacts.
EDIT: And don’t worry, I am not trying to sell anything, I am a public accountant and I’m not luring people out so that I can try to sell you Cutco knives or get you into a pyramid scheme, just want to meet some other local professionals.
Sounds good. Once we see if anyone else is interested, we can try to plan something that will work for everyone. My schedule is always up in the air since I go to different clients every few weeks, but I am sure we can work something out.
I’d be interested, but I live in DC. I’ve made a ton of contacts down here and it really does help not only with careers, but social items as well. My bridesmaid’s sister in law is a wedding coordinator and I just happened to be engaged. The more people you know, the better off you are
Would a happy hour work better for you guys or would you rather go to lunch somewhere downtown? Also, what weeks work well for you guys. I won’t be able to do the last two weeks of July because I will be driving to and from Morgantown everyday for work, but most of the time I am pretty close to the city and I can get away from work for an hour or so at lunch to meet up. Let me know what your preferences are.
