The 1901 to 1904 Curved Dash was the first mass-produced car, made from the first automotive assembly line, an invention that is often miscredited to Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company
For the 1940 model, Oldsmobile was the first auto manufacturer to offer a fully automatic transmission, called the Hydramatic, which featured four forward speeds.
In 1971, the Ford car company built an experimental airbag fleet. General Motors tested airbags on the 1973 model Chevrolet automobile that were only sold for government use. The 1974, Oldsmobile Toronado was the first car with a passenger air bag intended for sale to the public. General Motors later offered an option to the general public of driver side airbags in full-sized Oldsmobile’s and Buick’s in 1975 and 1976 respectively.

yea, olds had a good run, so did pontiac but they both are/were under gm so everyone wins. do you even have an olds? cause I found an alero on the side of the road that said: Free, no one else wants me but stubborn fanny bandits that like to claim that in 1962 (47 years ago) there car did something that set some type of standard that noone cares to use or everyone now has installed stock.
Pontiac had many 1sts…I actually have a link to PMD’s engineering firsts in my home PC if you really need it, but this details Pontiac’s earlier years in racing…
Chevy had a turbo car in 1962, the Corvair.
The injection setup in the 62 olds 215 was a 1/2 methyl alchohol 1/2 water mix, to try to prevent detonation due to the 10:1 compression ratio. Boost was limited to 5PSI. It was discontinued in 64 due to reliability issues
The corvair had an 8.0:1 compression and did not require water injection.
It really doesn’t matter what olds started. Olds could have designed the first wheel and it would still mean dick. Olds sucks, have always sucked, and will always suck.
back to pontiac, don’t let the door hit you in the ass.
