Pontiac is done

Tri-Power, Ram air, and sweet hood tachs perhaps?

Sucks to see but, lets face it, Pontiac is a shadow of it’s former self. Aside from the G8 and Solstice, they don’t have anything but re-branded Chevrolets and whatnot.

And GM can axe Pontiac, but we still have the memories of Muscle Car glory days, so we just need to preserve that history and keep those cars on the road.

olds had tri-power in 57, pontiac had it the same year

All of you are :tool:'s
GTO is poop. the stupid tiger commercials could not save it.
under powered Mustang >*

How are those apples !!! - Good will hunting

olds is dead and has been for a while, let it go. noone cares about olds anymore, and barely did care when they were still around.

i guess all those people that made it number 1 in the late 70s didnt care. dechrome ur truck because olds came up with that, i hope ur truck is a stick because olds came up with the automatic. etc etc

Yeah, I’m really not sure why they’re removing Pontiac. I mean, I guess it’s the only logical choice. Cadillac is Cadillac, Buick is bought by insane amounts of old people, Chevy is bought my many people, and Saturn is finally taking off. I figured it’d be between Saturn or Pontiac. And honestly, I’d rather it be Saturn. But shit happens. It’ll probably be back eventually, but we’ll have to wait and see. GM did this to themselves though. No one else to blame.

And this bullshit about making the same damn car across different companies is just dumb. We don’t need the Cobalt and the G5 if they’re both the same car. Way to cut business from your other brand.

Chrome and automatic transmissions? What a contribution.

My opinion is that they really wanted to make it a niche market segment, but that idea was (strongly) poo-pooed by the government.

olds died when the last g body 442 came off the line

on star (guide star), HUD, the first mass produced car, first modern fwd, first air bag, first turbocharged engine. the first auto assembly line ( often credited to henry ford) … :finger2:

cutty… where are you getting all of this misinformation? i guess you meant the first autotranny with a converter? the first heads up display was GM… right? SAE Technical Paper No. 890228… I guess you meant the first mass produced car in the United States… the 78 dodge omni tranny??? that was made in 1975 by Volkswagen? and first gasoline turbocharged engine mass produced… the first conveyor driven assembly line was Ford, which is still used today… oh and onstar: “OnStar delivered its first product and service to the market in 11 months, in the fall of 1996 for model year 1997 Cadillac DeVille, Seville and Eldorado models” … the airbag idea was invented and pitched to chrysler… but first mass produced by ford in 1970

Sonny (after a good day of googling) > Cutty

Agreed. The only Old’s half worth a shit after that looks/performance-wise was the Aurora. And those didn’t hold up too well build-quality-wise from the ones I’ve driven…

First mass produced car- model t

On-star, goes to caddy-In 1996, then GM North America Operations President Rick Wagoner officially launched OnStar at the Chicago Auto Show. OnStar delivered its first product and service to the market in 11 months, in the fall of 1996 for model year 1997 Cadillac DeVille, Seville and Eldorado models. For a short time, OnStar service was available on vehicles produced by Acura, Audi, Subaru, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen through a licensing agreement.

first front wheel drive ever-
Prior to 1900

According to various sources, sometime between 1895 and 1898 Gräf & Stift built a voiturette with a one-cylinder De Dion-Bouton engine fitted in the front of the vehicle, powering the front axle. It was thus arguably the world’s first front-wheel drive automobile, but it never saw mass production, with only one copy ever made.

First Modern- the mini 1959, because of its traverse engine arrangement still used today.

Airbag- a joint project by gm but was in a chevy car first, Ford built an experimental fleet of cars with airbags in 1971, followed by General Motors in 1973 on Chevrolet vehicles. In 1974, GM made dual-stage twin front airbags optional in full-size Buick, Cadillac and Oldsmobile models and called them the “Air Cushion Restraint System”. The early fleet of experimental GM vehicles equipped with airbags experienced seven fatalities, one of which was later suspected to have been caused by the airbag.[citations needed]
