Preference on helmet for track?

Does anyone have a preference on helmet brand or style that they felt worked for them?

I just went and bought a DOT helmet from tom clark motors. fits well and was cheap

great, how about what brand? what model? what is cheap? what style? any info would be great

how different are they from motorcycle helmets… that’s what i’d wear…

then of course… Ebay - where you can find “it”… woo

there are two different classifications for helmets. SA - Sports Application and M - Motorcycle. I believe some events do not recommend using a M helmet in a car and prefer SA. The SA is tested more for fire protection as well as roll cage protection.

m2000 snell and DOT is all u need ! just get what feels comfortable on ya

Oh, ok… well, i have a KBC VR-1 Euro helmet for my bike… awesome fit, and feel… they also have been discontinued by KBC, so you can get brand new ones on Ebay for pretty darned cheap…

I have a protect and love it, its very comfortable even for extended periods of time and still gets you good ventilation. I got mine from speednation on 88 out by you it was around 200 dollars

100 bucks for my KBC, comfy

i have a SHOEI and it was about 400, looking at a Arai for next year

some bike helmets i believe meet both standards

Most motorcylce helmets are fine for the sub 14 second helmet rule at NHRA/IHRA tracks. Any helmet meeting EITHER M2000 or SA2000 specifications will qualify.

I use a generic, open faced motorcylce helmet I bought at Gatto for $70. When you buy, just make sure that the helmet is marked as being M2000/SA2000 certified SOMEWHERE on the helmet, sometimes the markings are inside, under the padding.

I believe a new certification came out last year, as new certifications generally come out every 5 years. A certification is good for 15 years- my M2000 motorcylce helmet will be fine at the track until 2015.

Drag strip you usually can get away with motorcycle helmets. The road course will probably be more strict on the helmet and require the SA type.

i have decided on getting an SA as well as a full face. I was going to get an open face till i read an article how an open face helmet can not protect you as good as a full. They made mention to something i never though about. If you are hit from behind with an open face your head will fly forward. With an open face you will fly forward and hurt your spine worse then if you had a closed helmet. The closed helmet would hit your sternum and not let your neck stretch as far forward. so since i like the ability to walk, i will pick up a closed face helmet for a few bucks more

I use an open face helmet. Better for looking around racing those faster cars.

get an sa helmet more $ now but you will be able to use for ontrack events other than drag racing

i like my g force helmet

this helmet will be at my house Wednesday!
