Have a track day coming up at the glen that requires SA helmets. Between that and getting more serious into tracking my car it’s time to spend some cash on a quality helmet.
I’m down in the southern tier and around here all the motorcycle shops I’ve been to carry only SM or DOT helmets. I’m going to be in both Rochester and Buffalo before the track event so I thought maybe someplace there carries the SA helmets. Any ideas?
I’ve found a bunch of places online to get them of course but I’m just not sure about sizing and don’t want to have to send the helmet back to get the right size if I don’t have to.
I’ve got 2 SM helmets right now, same brand…ones a large and ones a medium and they both fit the same. I’m just worried about sizing differences and want a helmet that fits perfect if I’m spending hundreds on the thing.
They’re both the typical full face helmet. One is probably 7-8 years old and the other one brand new so maybe that has something to do with it.
Thanks…I’ll have to check them out. Ordering isn’t a huge deal since I’ll probably be up there more than once. At least as long as they have a size that works and I can try on…or one that is close enough to know I need a size up/down.
That was the original plan until I found out the group I’m with on the 2nd of october requires SA helmets. The 2005 should be good for 5 years from what I understand so I might as well take advantage of some clearance prices. I notice a lot of online vendors with really discounted prices.
It’s a higher standard than snell’s motorcycle helmet rating which is SM. I believe it stands for special application but it’s mainly for auto racing. It has a kevlar lining on the inside and I’ve heard that they have more rigorous impact standards.
I bought my simpson helmet awhile back from Bicknell Racing on Maryland st in the Falls, 716-285-7502 is their number and the website is http://www.bicknellracingproducts.com/
Ma Helmets are designed for '1" hit and drag. Like a bike accident.
Sa Helmets are designed for multiple hits. Like bouncing around inside a roll cage along with the Fire rating, that the MA does not have.
Actually e-mailed the group I’m doing the track day with and they said the M helmet would be fine since the new standards are coming out so I’m good to go I guess.
