"Okay, here’s a brief story for you. On one of the last days Stokes and I had the mules at Milan, all the PAS shooters were in attendance (Pokey, Chuck Mountain, Bjerke, Tobin, etc) as well as Kim Nielsen from GMC marketing and a couple other folks from GM. This is one of the days that I just met Jim at the track (he trailered out a full-cladding mule that was to look and run as well as possible). I drove my then, relatively new and stock 1989 Mustang GT to the track. Kim Nielsen was forever hammering the PAS crew to make the Syclone faster with more boost, but our guys were hesitant since it was barely passing emmissions at the time as it was. Kim formulated a little scheme. He knew what my Mustang ran (I had run 14’teens with it earlier that day) and he saw one of our marketing guys taking the Syclone-of-the-day up the line. The marketing guy never drag raced before and just wanted to try the thrill of going down the track.
Kim approached me quickly and said, “Dale! Dale! Go get your Mustang and race Skip in the Syclone!! He doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing and I want you to take him down in front of everyone with your ‘slower’ car!” The idea was that if a stock Mustang GT could beat an average driver in a Syclone, then PAS would surely have to step up the power on the truck. Kim told me he didn’t care if I had to redlight, but just to be sure I out and across the stripes with my Mustang before the Syclone.
I got in my little 5 liter Mustang and hustled up to the line while Skip was still taking through-the-window advice on how to load the converter and build boost on the line. By the time the lights came down, I managed an .003 light and Skip left a half second later. Even though I only did a 14.20, I beat Skip’s 13.75 by several car-lengths open.
When I pulled back to the starting line where everyone was hanging out, I could already hear Kim lambasting the PAS engineers about more boost and fuel for the factory specs since a genuinely stock 5 liter could put the hurt on a Syclone. The PAS crew was none-the-wiser about Kim concocting that little demonstration with my picking on the inexperienced driver. "
had it on the road yesterday. I was launching at 5psi with the truck pretty sideways.
my driverside motor mount is either wore, or broken. So until i can get in to change it, i put a turnbuckle torque strap to hold the engine down. So now when i launch, the left front of the truck lifts about 2~3 inches.
I still have a couple wheels to refinish, and my bumper is due back from my bodyguy this week.
sideways-sounds really fast
if your motor mount is broke youll know but the cuts the alt will put in your headliner.
also the truck will take off then at wot timimg will pull back and the truck will fall on its face until you lift a little , then it will speed back up.
-its a bitch btw to change something like 2+ hours for the driver side
a torque strap is always a good idea even when it isnt broke
this is a pic of the old strap thats not adjustable-i have a racheting one now
my bodyguy (uncle) won’t have my front cladding done till Sunday, which takes me outta Starlite on friday, owe well, theres always next week.
addition: just had the truck out for about 20 minutes, WOT a couple times, and no knock retard (didnt stumble), it pulled hard to 50mph, and held steady at 15psi, no spikes or surges. It is a kick ass ride. It should run 100% better when my new IC pump gets delivered.
well it passed emissions, got 168 particles at idle, and 60 something at 2500rpm, the PA limit is 220.
but for inspection, my turnsignals work when my lights at off, but not when they’re on, so i’ll change bulbs and check grounds, and my tranny linkage it hitting my propshaft (aftermarket shaft, larger diameter).
