Electric Camaro. Kinda takes some of the fun away… but it’s interesting to listen to the sound the slicks make:
When the starting-line light turned green, Mr. Adamowicz and his electric-powered WarpFactor II Camaro sprinted in virtual silence to a quarter-mile time of 10.08 seconds, reaching a terminal speed of 127 m.p.h. That’s about a tenth of a second quicker than a 1,001-horsepower Bugatti Veyron.
… which generate about 1,000 pound-feet of torque from one r.p.m. to top speed.
“I plan on having the fastest electric drag car in the world,” Mr. Adamowicz said Tuesday in a phone interview. “I believe we’ll be able to run in the seven-second range by spring.” An electric Volkswagen Beetle known as the Black Current, 1,000 pounds lighter than the Camaro, is currently the fastest E.V. drag racer in the world, with a 9.51-second quarter-mile run.
I bet Lancaster could finally get approval to go to a 1/4 mile if all the cars sounded like that.
It is interesting to think about the future of motorsports. Right now a major roadblock to track development is noise issues. Take away the roar of the motors and it would probably be a lot easier to get tracks past zoning boards.
There is nothing with the noise stopping Lancaster frm going to a 1/4, they just don’t own enough land. The noise comes into play at lancaster when they have curfews for racing and can no longer race at night
I agree that the future of motorsports could become interesting, a big departure from where it is now. However, (in my not completely serious opinion here) the immediate future is in turbos. More turbo cars=less open header NA combos…problem solved!
that gave me the creeps for some reason. its like, youre so used to looking at it, seeing it one way, thats how it always is. but then something liek that happens and it just fucks with your head.
