it’s essentially “faking” an image to display a greater contrast range than most film/lcds/ect can display.

for instance, if you were standing inside a house and took a picture inside of it, any outside light sources (like a window) would show up as bright white… same if you were outside… any darker areas would show up black. In all reality though, in person… you would be able to see out of the window as well/see detail in darker areas

HDR trys to “re-create” the full range of contrast that we can see, but can’t accurately film/photograph/ect due to technology limitations
