when I had a 7.2 megapixel casio exilim, this thread made me hate it and want a better camera. Now I have a 10.2 mega pixel casio exilim, and this thread is making me want another camera yet again

fml.

lesson of the day then would be not to replace a cheap p&s with yet another cheap p&s

If its a point and shoot, its PROBABLY terrible compared to a low end DSLR. And how many dots the sensor has on it is almost meaningless… Referring to a cameras quality as a function of how many megapixels the sensor has is silly.

D40’s are only 6MP and they take fairly good pictures. Especially when you take into account the largest you ever really view them on the web, is 1280 wide. Most of the pics on this page are 1280x855, thats 1.1MP. Your 7.2MP Casio has 7x more dots than you are viewing on the internet… Its not a big factor at all.

Get a camera with some quality pixels, and good glass. They’re honestly not expensive at all, for low end or older stuff.

i have about 700 pics in all to edit from holiday valley’s gatorade freeflow comp. this past sat, got some pretty nice ones i think

here’s an example…

it was nice being able to go wherever i wanted to get the shot, a lots of the time i was standing or kneeling on the top of the ramps, having them fly right over top of me

yep, MP doesn’t have much to do with it, up until a about 2 years ago i was still using my 6mp nikon D70, in fact i think micah still uses his 6mp d40…doesn’t matter so much the camera, its the person using it

exactly i just picked up scott’s old d70s and even though its a bit old, i love it. now i just need to get a new lens…

my d70 was a tank, wish i didn’t sell it and had kept it as a backup

if i keep shooting at my current rate im sure ill be looking to upgrade to a d90 sooner than later…

i will say im kinda bummed that i cant find a battery grip for the d70 anywhere…damn outdated technology…

you can but its not worth it at all, basically you get the grip, then a wire going from the grip to the Ir sensor, has to be stuck there to work…basically the grip will act like an IR remote…

point being its not even worth it on that camera…

thats what you need

and here’s one for sale

I would skip right over the D90 and go with the D7000 instead…I almost opted for the D7K myself but I decided to spring for the D300s. It just suited my needs a bit more. But i know many who have the 7K and love it.

personally i’m going for a D2X as my next body, which may be in the next couple of weeks

i have no need for video on my still camera, seems pointless to me, that and i have an HD video camera to shoot video with anyway if i ever feel i need to

D2X is nice…just saw one go for great price on egay. I thought about going that route…but didnt want to have to go through all the lens upgrades etc that come with going to a full frame body…too much invested in my current lenses to want to start over. I didnt get the D300s for its video…though its way better than the D90 video, having AF.
