That is what I am doing. Figure run my FPGA array until the ASIC miners take over the mining pool when they come at the end of this year.
Just be careful on the dB that comes out, it it interferes with a tower or raises the noise floor of the SnR, it violates FCC rules and can be considered an act of terrorism. At Verizon when we bough the old analog TV spectrum (700Mhz) block for LTE we found a lot of old wireless mics were running on the same channels… it was oddly entertaining giving notices to different churches and clubs from the FCC saying their devices are illegal to use. The best is when we get to bust some doctors office who orders a “jammer”…we pretty much have a team of engineers who focus on rf performance lol. I’ll try to see if I can dig up one of the FCC warning letters haha! (I’m in a different group now)

Thought this was a cool article. The Pandora jukebox looks pretty damn sweet!
I don’t give any fucks…
If I see the FCC vans outside trying to triangulate my position I will worry
The FCC can suck a dick!
Just look for a guy with a big spectrum analyzer and a handheld directional antenna! All we can really see is the diversity imbalance from a tower, so that would just lower the area down towards a particular sector off a tower. lol. After that its just some driving around trying to isolate the noise…
Chances are the RPI won’t be able to put out anything really powerful enough to really even leave the house i would think…
I am currently trying this little project with the PI, got a second SD card (just waiting for the controllers via amazon):

That jukebox looks sweet, I like the arcade emulator too!
I’m thinking about picking one of these up to place with, but I am very limited with my knowledge and computer skills. I think it would be cool to have this in my living room to use as a computer for my TV. Can anyone tell me what I might need to get started?
I also thought about following that tutorial for building a Pandora hub for my garage. I have a Bose sound dock out there now, but I would probably find a way to hook the hub into it. any ideas on that?
Here’s the list of what I used when setting up my RPI as a media center[XBMC], you may need a USB hub if you you the WiFi adapter (unit only has two USB ports):
USB remote (although a smartphone over wifi works too, check out the XBMC app):

USB3.0, speed up the OS a bit by loading it on the USB over fully SD card. You will still need a small SD card for the boot process though!

For operating systems, I like RaspBMC. Its very simple to install, lots of great youtube videos and tutorials online!
After what the guys in vegas did last summer im not that worried…
That’s awesome! I haven’t worked with GSM before, only CDMA/EVDO/LTE. I would love to go to Defcon or CES one year!
It’s a blast definitely worth the trip I will be there for Blackhat/Defcon/Security BSides Vegas
Does it only operate through wifi? I have a router that would sit right next to it…could I just link in the ethernet cable?
Yep! I have mine via Ethernet (to ensure best network transfer speeds), and it helps free up a USB port.
I had mine originally as a auto torrent downloader for TV shows. Boot it, enter shows you watch and it will check for them and auto download them for you every day. Pretty awesome to come home and have it full of shows from the night before.
I am now working on making it a social playlist box. Bring it to a BBQ, connect it to the network and stereo, and everyone can “request” songs on it via their iPhones to play on it.
I thought the one setup to send a text message to you when your sump pump fails was pretty awesome!
yea these devices are really sweet! Check out arduinos, another microcontroller that has lots of really cool projects you can do (but they tend to be a bit more pricey than the RPI).
The great thing with the RPI is that you can just load each “profile” onto a different SD card for whatever use you want to have it do. Right now I have one SD card for my XBMC and one SD card for my emulator station, can’t wait to try a few other projects!

Very cool! Are you following a build? If so, definitely share that link, sounds interesting!
lol this reminds me there is a hack for those juke boxes at bars that have internet connections to request songs/steal peoples tokens/etc

I am building this myself so will be a build when I launch the Kickstarter. I still am cleaning up the base concept software and going to do a kick starter once I get the raspberry pi case done. Still need a name and logo for the product. Just me working on it so its time consuming.
You could do the one for TouchTunes by stealing the unencrypted session key and taking over an account but they got smart and started to use SSL.
I just ordered one with a case/memory from Amazon.
We did the Defcon CTF prequal this weekend and got hammered with exploiting ARM binaries so I figure this will be nice to have kicking around.
Only issue with them is the USB port power sucks. If you want to run multiple devices that draw power higher than a USB keyboard/mouse, I suggest getting a cheap USB hub and powering them with that. Using mine so much for media and seeing how people want to use them in houses for Pandora players and media streamers, I am looking at ways to keep the cooling down.
